When the summer transfer window rolls around after the season ends, the club will have a lot of players to assess; whether they play their football elsewhere and who should replace them.

Liverpool's senior team has been exemplary this season under Arne Slot, surpassing all expectations in leading the race to win this year's Premier League title, while they're also in the last 16 of the Champions League and in another EFL cup final.

The likelihood for some silverware to make its way back to Merseyside this May is high and that would signify a remarkable first year in charge for the Dutchman, especially having taken over from Jurgen Klopp.

Nonetheless, some players have underperformed and their futures at the club are at risk, meanwhile some youngsters in the academy are ready for the step up to senior football and if they can't fit into Slot's plans, then they will potentially move on to pastures new.

As such, Liverpool have plenty to think about and it appears as though one club might have a lot of correspondence to go through with the Reds this summer, if a four-player swap deal can be agreed.

Two players headed to London, two players headed to Liverpool

The positions that Liverpool need to recruit in are likely to be left-back, centre-back, defensive midfield, and one or two forward areas.

As such, Crystal Palace could hold the key to the Reds having a successful summer transfer window, as Adam Wharton and Marc Guehi are both players who are high up on Richard Hughes and the recruitment team's shortlists.

Ryan Gravenberch needs an understudy and it is clear that Wharton is one of the big talents who would add incredible depth to the midfield, joining Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones as part of Slot's central engine.

Likewise, Liverpool have been longing for a centre-back for quite some time now, having not bought one since Ibrahim Konate in 2022. Virgil van Dijk and Konate are a partnership made in heaven, but beyond that, Joe Gomez looks fragile and Jarell Quansah is having a crisis of confidence.

Guehi is a known leader in Crystal Palace's defensive line and his physical presence at the back makes him a player just waiting for his potential to be unleashed. While he currently plays in a back three, his performances for the England national team during the 2024 Euros demonstrated that he is more than capable of playing as part of a pairing in a back four.

As such, Liverpool could find themselves relying on Crystal Palace for some crucial additions to the Reds squad in the summer, and as it happens, the latest reports are suggesting that they are eyeing up two of the club's most prized young players.

According to Alan Nixon, the Eagles are keen on bringing Ben Doak and Lewis Koumas to South London on permanent transfers.

Currently, Doak is excelling in Championship promotion-pushing Middlesbrough, meanwhile Koumas has been learning his trade at Championship relegation-threatened Stoke City.

In Doak, you have a 19-year-old winger who likes to carry the ball forward and taking on full-backs and despite this being his first major experience of regular senior football, he has three goals and seven assists to his name from 21 starts.

Meanwhile, in Koumas you have a player of the same age as Doak, who has struggled a little more in his spell away from Liverpool, delivering three goals and two assists from 23 starts.

Nonetheless, if the Reds are unable to find a fit for them in their squad moving forward, then Crystal Palace would be an enormous opportunity for the pair to feature in the Premier League on a regular basis and if it helps entice the Eagles into negotiations for Wharton and Guehi, then there might be a perfect storm.

Of course, in order to secure players of Guehi and Wharton's abilities, a significant price tag will need to be met, but with the two clubs having players that each of them wants, Liverpool could find themselves in business when the summer rolls around.
