Liverpool are interested in signing Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele, according to Sport.

The report states that the Reds have made contact with the Frenchman's representatives. Barcelona signed Dembele from Borussia Dortmund for a transfer fee of £126 million back in the summer of 2017.

However, the 25-year-old could depart the club as a free agent in July.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Dembele has struggled since joining Barcelona. The forward has only scored 32 goals and registered 34 assists in 150 appearances for the La Liga side.

But, Dembele is a much better player than what the aforementioned statistics suggest. There is a reason why Barcelona paid so much money to sign the Frenchman.

Barcelona legend Xavi has certainly had good things to say about Dembele in the past.

"He came to the club with a lot of pressure, when he needed time to mature," he told Le Journal du Dimanche back in 2019, as quoted by BeSoccer.

"Barca are a very demanding challenge for a young player. His humility and desire to work hard play in his favour.

"He does the same things as Di Stefano, Pele, Cruyff, Maradona or Zidane at a time when the game doesn’t give you as much time to think as before."

We would not be against Liverpool making a move for Dembele. The lad is talented, young and available on a free transfer in less than a month.

Also, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has a track record of getting the best out of players. Therefore, a move to Anfield might benefit Dembele.

He certainly has potential. Dembele simply needs someone to unlock it. But, only time will tell if the Reds are to make a move for the talented forward.
