Liverpool have joined Manchester United in the battle to sign Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips, according to the Daily Star, as cited by The Anfield Buzz's Twitter account.

The report further adds that if the 25-year-old does decide to leave Elland Park, he would prefer a move to Anfield.

Phillips' contract expires in June 2024. Transfermarkt value the Englishman at €40 million.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

We would love to see Liverpool sign Phillips. The midfielder can seriously play.

Phillips averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.01 across the 2020-21 Premier League campaign.

The Reds are yet to replace Gini Wijnaldum. The Dutchman departed Liverpool and joined Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer during the summer.

Phillips would be a decent replacement for Wijnaldum. The Englishman is young, talented and plays in a similar position to Wijnaldum.

There is a lot to like about Phillips. But, only time will tell if Liverpool are genuinely interested in signing the midfielder.
