Liverpool have reportedly been scouting Bundesliga midfielder
Liverpool have kept an eye on Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz, according to the Express, as cited by BBC Sport.
The report states that the club's scouts have watched the 18-year-old in recent times. However, the story further adds that scouts from both Manchester United and Newcastle United have also done the same.
The Germany international recently suffered a serious knee injury and is expected to return to first-team action in late September.
With that being the case, the aforementioned clubs are reportedly unlikely to make a move for Wirtz this summer.
The midfielder, who's contract does not expire until June 2026, possesses a current market value of €70 million.
Anfield Watch Verdict
Wirtz is a promising young talent. The midfielder has found the back of the net 10 times and registered 14 assists in 31 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen's first-team this season.
Wirtz has also been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.41 across the 2021-22 Bundesliga campaign.
Germany coach Hansi Flick has certainly had plenty of good things to say about the youngster in the past.
"Florian is just a huge asset for this team (Germany) through his carefreeness," the 57-year-old said last year, as quoted by the Bundesliga's official website.
"He's simply an outstanding technician, loves to play, very creative, has a good shot, runs hard and is quick. He's got a good total package."
As the aforementioned figures and comments highlight, Wirtz is a player that could take the world by storm in the coming years. Therefore, we would love to see Liverpool sign the 18-year-old at some stage.
But, the potential €70 million price tag might scare the Reds off. On another note, we wish Wirtz all the best with his recovery. Injuries are cruel.
