Liverpool have new frontrunner for £10m documentary series

There's a new frontrunner to buy the upcoming Liverpool documentary on Jurgen Klopp's final season in charge. Netflix and Amazon have reservations.

The Daily Mail reports that Disney+ are now the frontrunners to buy the upcoming Liverpool documentary series. The Reds announced filming last week as camera crews will document Jurgen Klopp's final season in charge

Things will be produced by the same company behind the Diego Maradona documentary and many others, Lorton Entertainment. It comes six years after Klopp vetoed plans for the Reds to be a part of Amazon's All or Nothing.

However, the boss has assurances this time around that cameras won't be in private areas, such as the dressing room. It's that very assurance that has put off Netflix and Amazon, though.

Disney don't appear to have the same concerns and are supposedly willing to part with £10m to get the rights. Both Sky Sports and TNT declined to get involved due to the costs involved.

And so it sounds as though you'll catch the upcoming series on Disney+, should all go to plan. Nothing is finalised but with the other major streaming services bowing out of the running, the path is clear here.

It will be a bit strange to see Liverpool in a documentary, given how deliberately private the club has been under Klopp. There are also lingering doubts from the infamous series under Brendan Rodgers.

But it appears that Liverpool will be doing this in the 'right' way, with little to no disruption of the team. After all, the Reds are competing on four fronts right now and distractions are the last thing they need.

This is all going very smoothly, though, and Klopp being on board is as good a sign as anything that this will be something special. Now to deliver that happy ending.
