There is a lot to settle until then with Richard Hughes still working on trying to tie down Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold to new deals.

Liverpool do not want to lose that trio, but there is another trio the club could be prepared to lose.

Anfield Watch revealed exclusively that the club are prepared to sell Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota in the summer window as they prepare a major overhaul.

This could open up the possibility of Liverpool being given a second chance to sign an exciting winger who has been on the club's radar in the past.

Why Liverpool now have a golden chance to sign Kaoru Mitoma

In a book titled How to Win the Premier League: The Inside Story of Football’s Data Revolution written by Ian Graham, Liverpool's former director of research, he revealed that one of his biggest regrets is not pushing harder to sign Kaoru Mitoma while he was playing in Japan.

“Kaoru Mitoma was the best player in Japan, rating above the Premier League average. It was very rare for us to rate a player in Japan anywhere near Premier League level," Graham wrote.

“It’s still a source of regret to me that I didn’t insist that Mitoma be more seriously considered as a potential Liverpool signing.”

At the time Mitoma was lighting up the J.League for Kawasaki Frontale and in the end it was Brighton who signed him up.

Mitoma has since established himself as one of the best wingers in the Premier League with exquisite control and technical ability.

His one vs one skills are the best in the league, he's able to torment anyone on a given day.

And now he's approaching a stage in his career where he is ready for the next step. Mitoma will be 28 years old and it seems like he is thinking about his future.

According TBR Football he's now considering his future and he told his Brighton he is open to a move this summer with his desire to play in the Champions League.

Brighton rejected a £75m deal from Saud side Al Nassr in the January transfer window.

Mitoma did not want to move to Saudi Arabia and based on this report, claiming he wants to play in the Champions League, it makes sense why he made that decision.

Clearly the Japanese winger is thinking about his legacy and that means he is motivated by more than just money. This makes him an ideal option for Liverpool.

As we revealed, Liverpool will be looking to reshuffle the attack and Luis Diaz looks closer to leaving, either for Saudi Arabia or Barcelona.

Mitoma would be the ideal replacement. He's a ready made player who still has years left at the top. Even though he will be 28 years old, it's important to remember he only started playing professional football a 21 years old after leaving university.

He's played relatively little in Europe and that should elongate his career. Mitoma still probably has another five years at least in his prime.
