Liverpool have chance to swoop for 'no longer unsellable' Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich
Despite already spending £95m on Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai this summer, Liverpool's midfield rebuild is far from complete.
Jürgen Klopp has already lost five bodies in the centre of the park, and two of the club's most experienced midfielders in Jordan Henderson and Fabinho also look increasingly likely to depart, with moves to Saudi Arabia heavily reported.
Naturally the club has been on the look out to plug those holes, and the news coming out of Germany this week indicating that Thomas Tuchel would consider selling Joshua Kimmich if the price is met, is likely to pique interest on Merseyside.
As reported by Kicker, Kimmich is "no longer seen as unsellable" and Bayern would be ready to talk about a potential transfer — a stance that will likely put Premier League clubs on red alert.
The 28-year-old, who racked up 18 goal contributions in 47 games in all competitions last season, is widely regarded as one of the best in the world in his position and is valued at €75m (£64m) by Transfermarkt. However, there is no indication of what fee it would take for Bayern to actually come to the negotiating table for the player who has two years left on his contract in Bavaria.
The report states: "Should a club make a specific request and make a lucrative offer for Bayern's third captain, the champions would be willing to talk."
A versatile defensive midfielder who also has the ability to deputise at right-back, Kimmich — though surely an expensive option — would seemingly fit in well at Liverpool with the ability to either play alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold in his new hybrid role, or cover for him when necessary.
While an exciting option for the Reds, it should be noted that Kicker's original article makes no mention of Liverpool, with all links coming from subsequent re-reports.
Perhaps more realistic than Kimmich, Steve Kay writes for Anfield Watch that Liverpool are targeting another Bayern midfielder in Leon Goretzka, who could be available for €40m (£34m).
