Liverpool consider Inter boss Simone Inzaghi as new manager
Liverpool are considering Inter boss Simone Inzaghi as their replacement for Jurgen Klopp, according to reports in Italy. The Reds are searching far and wide.
Tuttosport in Italy claims Simone Inzaghi is on Liverpool's shortlist to find their new manager. The Reds are after someone who can follow in Jurgen Klopp's footsteps - about as difficult a job in world football right now.
Thus the best managers available are on that shortlist. Inzaghi is amongst those, having worked wonders at Lazio before taking the Inter job in 2021.
Inzaghi has been unable to clinch the Serie A title since moving there but has won the Coppa Italia in both seasons, as well as three Supercoppas. His biggest achievement, unquestionably, was leading Inter to their first Champions League final since 2010. In fact, 2023 was the first time they made it beyond the quarter-final stage in 12 years.
And the Italian now has Inter sitting at the top of Serie A by nine points and with a game in hand. Inzaghi looks near certain to clinch his first league title as a manager.
Impressively, Inzaghi has accomplished all of this while operating at a net profit. Inter have sold on the likes of Achraf Hakimi, Romelu Lukaku, and Andre Onana since he took over (the first two left in his first summer), while not reinvesting the money into arrivals.
That, above all, will be why Inzaghi is almost certainly considered at Liverpool. But they're not the only ones.
Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona are all looking at the Inter boss. Inzaghi will only have one year remaining on his contract after this season, opening the door for an exit.
And with so many major clubs in the market for a manager this summer - Bayern Munich being another - he could be on the move. Whether Inzaghi ends up at Anfield, though, is another question.
Xabi Alonso remains the primary target at Anfield, while Sporting's Ruben Amorim also appears to be ahead of Inzaghi on the shortlist.
