"Liverpool have been following him" - Fabrizio Romano on La Liga winger

Liverpool are interested in Villarreal forward Arnaut Danjuma, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Danjuma proved last season that he is more than capable of playing at the highest level.

The Netherlands international scored six goals and registered one assist in 11 Champions League appearances.

Therefore, Romano's claim that the Reds have been keeping a close eye on Danjuma since January comes as no surprise to us.

As quoted by Football Fancast, Romano told his Here We Go podcast the following: “He did really great with Villarreal, he has a release clause in his contract it’s around €45 million (£38 million), maybe a bit more, and so could be an opportunity in the market.

“Liverpool have been following him since January, let’s see if they will jump into it.”

Danjuma is contracted until the conclusion of the 2025-26 campaign. Transfermarkt value him at £45 million, which highlights that Liverpool would be paying unders if they were to activate his release clause.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Danjuma is obviously a talented player. There is a reason why the forward has had success in the Champions League.

Pundit Kevin Phillips also shares a similar view to us.

“Danjuma is a very, very good player," he told Football Insider.

“On his day he is a nightmare for defenders. He can create and score goals. He can hurt any defence with his pace and directness."

Danjuma is only 25 years of age. Therefore, he is only just entering his prime years as a footballer.

As things stand, we don't believe that Danjuma is good enough to overtake the likes of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota.

But, Danjuma would certainly add some quality and depth to Liverpool's forward line.
