Liverpool have already held meeting with Kylian Mbappe on FSG's private jet

Kylian Mbappe's future remains uncertain - and as such, it's inevitable that Liverpool will continue to be linked with a move.

The Frenchman is out of contract at PSG in the summer and has long been tipped to join Real Madrid come the end of the campaign.

However, the Reds have always seemed to be in the hunt for the striker, even if an actual offer has always seemed unlikely.

And according to L'Equipe, this interest dates back to Mbappe's days at Monaco, with it said that the then 18-year-old even held a two-hour with Reds owner John Henry on his private jet to discuss the idea of a transfer.

The French outlet reported that Henry tried to win over both Mbappe and his family by flying his private jet to Monaco - something that very nearly worked, with it claimed that the striker was close to making the switch to Anfield before PSG came calling.

It may be hoped that if Liverpool were to go back in for Mbappe in the summer, the longevity of their relationship could put them in good stead in any race for his signature.

As things stand, PSG are still desperate to keep hold of their global superstar, with president Nasser Al Khelaifi recently reaffirming his position on the potential sale of Mbappe.

Al Khelaifi told the Rothen s'enflamme RMC podcast: "Look, I am not trying to hide anything. I want Kylian Mbappe to stay at PSG. He's the best player in the world and the best club for him is PSG.

"He is central to our project. We have done a lot of things, some have worked more than others. We have made mistakes and this is normal. Now we have a young team, with French players, and we are not in a hurry, this is for the long-term."

Nevertheless, it looks increasingly likely that Mbappe will move away this summer, using the expiration of his current deal as a way to make a clean break from his shackles in Paris.

This would theoretically mean that wherever Mbappe goes, he'll be going on a free transfer. However, this would hardly be the case.

According to the Telegraph, the Frenchman will demand wages of £1.24m, which dwarfs current top earner Mohamed Salah's deal of £350k-a-week.

It would cause a complete change to Liverpool's wage structure if Jurgen Klopp was to sanction a deal - and at the end of the day, it's the main reason why after all these years of reported interest, it just doesn't look feasible for the Reds to sign Mbappe.
