Liverpool made headlines when they brought in Rio Ngumoha from Chelsea, who was regarded as the Blues' biggest academy talent and had already trained with the club's first team at 15 years old.

But Liverpool were not alone. Manchester United signed Chido Obi-Martin from Arsenal last summer in a similar landmark deal.

This has started all out war and this summer Liverpool could continue to front by bringing in one of Manchester City's most promising academy prospects, who just happens to be a Reds cult hero's son.

Sam McGuire: Alexander Isak has red flags Liverpool can't IGNORE

It's a move that simply has to be done.

Why Liverpool have a golden chance to sign Emile Heskey's son from Man City

The word 'legend' is a loose term these days. Emile Heskey was definitely a club hero for Liverpool. He formed a formidable duo with Michael Owen during the early 2000s at Anfield.

These days, he is also playing for the club's legend team which technically qualifies him as a club legend. His sons though are not plying their trade for the Reds, instead they are strutting their stuff for Manchester City.

And Heskey's youngest son, Reigan, who was actually born in Liverpool, is regarded as one of the best academy prospects at City.

Reigen Heskey unlikely his father is a silky left-winger who is capable of taking players on with ease and averages over seven dribblers per 90 minutes for City's academy sides this season.

The 17-year-old has 31 goal contributions in 29 appearances for City's academy sides at all levels this season.

Heskey has also represented England at youth level making for appearances for England's U17 side and scoring one goal so far.

Football Insider has claimed that European giants are assessing his situation late last year and Liverpool should also be considering a move.

Heskey is yet to sign a professional contract with Man City despite turning 17 years old in January. It's clear that he is assessing his options and the pathway at City is a lot more difficult to the first team than at Liverpool.

The Reds have tangible evidence of continuously promoting young talent and giving them the opportunities to thrive and flourish.

Heskey is a talent who would very much fit into Arne Slot's model, too.

He's a direct player, versatile in his ability to play in multiple offensive roles and he's deadly in front of goal.

On top of that he puts in a lot of defensive work off the ball. And he's effective at it, too.

He averages 5.74 defensive duels per 90 minutes for City at academy level and wins 73.3% of his duels as per Wyscout. Heskey also makes 4.5 recoveries per 90 minutes in the opposition's half.

Based on those numbers, it's clear he's a gem and given Liverpool were not shy to bring in Ngumoha last summer they should pursue a deal for Heskey with the same level of zeal.

Given his father's legacy at Anfield, it's only right Reigan should get the opportunity to follow in his footsteps.

He’s not regarded as one of the best at all, he’s good because we’ve trained him but he’s still young and unproven. Not to mention we have far better prospects so his Sons all likely be moved on anyway but, by all means please do provide evidence proving that’s he’s regarded as one of the best. He’s not even been signed a pro contract or played a professional game yet and you’re hyping him up. We’ve sold better than his kids because they weren’t good enough to cut it so what makes you think he will be at Anfield. Oh I forgot you Scousers and United fans love to hype up a steal from a rival United fans have made fools of themselves lately, by all means do the same and lie to your own fans, heck I’d drive him to Anfield for you. I’ve always said we shouldn’t be training rival players kids anyway.
