Time's up: FSG's Liverpool contract DISASTER is finally here
Liverpool fans should be feeling on top of the world this morning. Arne Slot has positioned the club as arguably the best team on the planet over the first half of the season.
In the Premier League, the Reds are purring. Top of the pile, they are eight points clear of Nottingham Forest in second place and boast a game in hand over the Tricky Trees.
Further back are Arsenal, nine points behind to be precise having played an equal number of games to Liverpool. Manchester City are so far back as to not even be in the equation. To put it bluntly, it would take a monumental collapse for the Reds to fail to win the title this term.

And in Europe, Liverpool have beaten all-comers, including Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen as they plot a SEVENTH Champions League crown.
Surveying the European landscape it’s only Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich who can claim to be within any sort of competitive distance of Liverpool at present but Liverpool still look well ahead of those two teams.
In short, it’s shaping up to be a SPECTACULAR 2025 for Arne Slot and his squad.
Van Dijk, Trent and Salah now free to talk
The Dutchman has utterly exceeded expectations to this point, confounding all predictions about him over the summer.
He has transformed the likes of Ibrahima Konate, Curtis Jones, Ryan Gravenberch, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo. The Reds are playing out of their skin and not even a hectic schedule, an autumn/ winter injury crisis and a worryingly fruitless transfer window can hold Slot and Liverpool back.
But there are storm clouds gathering.
The countdown has been on for not only days but months and even years. Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are now free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with any interested overseas teams.
The heart could potentially be ripped out of Liverpool over the next few months as three of their most important players face ongoing contract uncertainty.
And although Arne Slot remarked last week that the January 1 deadline was more for the media than for the clubs, it’s an unresolved situation that no fan wanted to see.
To be in competition with Saudi Arabia, with Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and the rest for YOUR OWN PLAYERS is a disaster waiting to happen for Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group.
It’s time to put any issues aside with these players and get the deals done.
This disaster is YEARS in the making
Sorting these contracts out was described as a priority for sporting director Richard Hughes back in summer. But over the last few weeks we have come to realise that Liverpool haven’t got very far.
Although Van Dijk’s future remains on Merseyside, Liverpool fans won’t be happy until they see him with that pen in his hand. Until then links with Real, Galatasaray, Bayern, and teams in the Saudi Pro League will continue to give them jitters.
Alexander-Arnold, meanwhile, spent part of this week living la dolce vita in Venice. His Real Madrid fate looks to be sealed, despite a failed approach from the Spanish capital club on Tuesday.
Losing Trent at the peak of his powers for nothing is something that FSG will have to live with for a long, long time.
Admittedly if his head has been turned there’s not a lot Liverpool can do about it but this is a situation that has manifested itself over the past number of YEARS, not weeks or months. It should never have been allowed to happen.
Mo Salah is the best player in the world
And what of Salah?
He reminded supporters following the West Ham game that an agreement was still some way off. And then his father was joking it up over whether he would join Al-Hilal or Al-Ittihad for the most money.
If FSG are not going to make an exception for Mo Salah then there is no hope for anyone else. He’s the best player in the world right now, bar none. His performances and his numbers are as good as Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi at their pomp.
The Egyptian King appears desperate to play many more years for Liverpool and right now looks better than ever.
How much would it cost to BUY this kind of talent never mind retain it?
Are FSG aware of what is about to happen?
We have seen good teams pop up, do well, maybe win a trophy or two and then get gutted by the big boys. But Liverpool ARE the big boys and they are doing this to themselves.
What kind of legacy are they setting forth for Slot as he embarks on the second half of his first season?
FSG are so lucky that this appointment came off because Slot is succeeding in spite of the ownership and not because of them.
In a few hours we may hear about any one of these top stars taking an offer elsewhere. And good luck to them. They’ve given their all to Liverpool, won their prizes and deserve whatever fortunes come next.
But Liverpool must now do everything in their power to prevent it, they must not let this fritter away. To lose one of Trent, Mo or Van Dijk would be unfortunate, to lose all three is unthinkable.
