Liverpool among four clubs interested in Kalvin Phillips January transfer
Liverpool are one of four Premier League clubs who have shortlisted Kalvin Phillips ahead of the January transfer window, according to a report.
The 27-year-old has seen little game time at Manchester City after his move from Leeds, featuring in just 15 Premier League games since the start of the 2022/23 season.
Phillips was touted as a possible transfer target for Liverpool during the summer window as Jurgen Klopp oversaw a midfield rebuild.
While the Reds completed that overhaul with the £145m outlay on four new signings, links to Phillips have persisted ahead of January, with the England midfielder's future still uncertain.
During the October international break, Phillips gave his strongest indication yet that he could seek to change clubs in order to help secure his place for Three Lions at next summer's Euros, saying: "I know that I need to be playing games and competing every weekend.
"I'm going to have to make a decision on [my future] over the next months."
Now talkSPORT claim that Liverpool are among the Premier League sides interested in Phillips, with the player 'likely to push for a move away from Manchester City'.
Fulham, Newcastle and Tottenham are the other three clubs named by the article, though there is little in the way of detail beyond the claim that the quartet have added the midfielder to their 'shortlists'.
Previously Bayern Munich have been mentioned as a credible destination for Phillips, potentially on an initial loan deal, with Thomas Tuchel still seeking a natural 'number six', having failed to sign Joao Palhinha this summer.
Whether Liverpool are in the market for more midfield additions remains to be seen.
Anfield Watch understands that the focus will be on strengthening the defence in 2024, with a left-sided centre back high on the agenda.
However, versatile midfielder Morten Frendrup of Genoa is another player who has been looked at recently.
