Liverpool's unbeaten start to the season is over.

It may have come in the cruellest possible manner but, amid all the controversy, the Reds can take consolation that it took all of... that to finally lose a game.

Liverpool look like proper contenders once again and they'll need to keep using the spirit they shown so far this season as the fixtures continue to pile up as we enter October.

Here's what awaits Liverpool in their next five fixtures.

LIVERPOOL VS UNION SAINT-GILLOISE – EUROPA LEAGUE

Having kicked off their Europa League campaign with a win away at LASK, Liverpool play their first game at home in the competition since May 2016 (when Roberto Firmino spun Roberto Soldado in the 3-0 semi final win over Villarreal), as they welcome Belgian side Union SG to Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp has promised strong lineups in Europe, but changes are to be expected, with this fixture sandwiched between two tough away days in the Premier League.

BRIGHTON VS LIVERPOOL – PREMIER LEAGUE

Rounding off things before the next international break, Liverpool attempt to recover from the defeat to Spurs with a trip to Brighton in their next Premier League outing.

Roberto De Zerbi's side, who have beaten Liverpool in their last two meetings, have experienced something of a mixed start to the season – winning five out of seven, but suffering heavy defeats to Aston Villa and West Ham.

Klopp and Liverpool fans can perhaps take some hope from the fact that Brighton face a testing away trip to Marseille three days prior, while the Reds are at home in their own Europa League outing.

LIVERPOOL VS EVERTON – PREMIER LEAGUE

Whether it will be a helpful break or a momentum wrecker remains to be seen, but Liverpool will have 13 days between the trip to Brighton and the first Merseyside Derby of 2023/24.

Everton have been in wretched form of late – even losing at home to Luton last weekend – while the Toffees have only won one of the last 28 clashes with Liverpool in all competitions.

It is hoped that this fixture will mark the first time Liverpool have Anfield at full capacity following the delayed expansion work.

Liverpool vs Toulouse – EUROPA LEAGUE

After the derby, the Reds get a change of pace with the return of Europa League action.

Toulouse currently sit 11th in France's Ligue 1, and the last time these two back in 2007, Liverpool won 4-0.

Expect plenty of rotation and a chance for the likes of Ben Doak and Jarell Quansah to strut their stuff once again.

Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest – PREMIER LEAGUE

Liverpool's third and final Premier League game of October sees them play host to Nottingham Forest, currently 11th in the table under former Reds youth coach Steve Cooper.

Another man familiar with Liverpool, Taiwo Awoniyi, scored the only goal when these two met at the City Ground last season, while Klopp's men came out victorious in a 3-2 thriller at Anfield back in April.
