CONFIRMED: Why Federico Chiesa is MISSING from Liverpool's squad to face Tottenham
Federico Chiesa has had a tough time at Anfield since joining the Reds during the summer, and has failed to make yet another squad for today’s Premier League game against Tottenham.
Since joining the club, Chiesa has had an ongoing injury problem which has ruled him out of most of the season so far.

However, his absence from today’s squad doesn’t seem to be down to injury, but rather a selection choice from Slot, who has included impressive teenager Trey Nyoni instead.
That’s according to journalist David Lynch, who revealed on X that the fact Chiesa is still not fully fit will have played into the decision, but that it was due to Slot preferring other options in his squad.
Chiesa has had limited minutes on the pitch for Liverpool this season, with Slot consistently pointing out that he has to adapt to the fact that the Premier League is much more intense than Serie A, where Chiesa has spent his whole career to date.
The Italian was back in a Liverpool lineup for the midweek Carabao Cup quarter-final against Southampton, but failed to make a big mark on proceedings after coming on at half-time.
His injury issues and lack of appearances have led to rumours of a potential return to Italy in January, with Ben Doak's performances at Middlesborough leading to calls for him to return to Liverpool in January to act as Mo Salah's deputy.
Arne Slot would have hoped to have been able to see more from Chiesa, who has only made one substitute appearance in the Premier League this season.
It’s been more than disappointing for a player who was tipped for greatness after his performances for Italy at EURO 2020.
Chiesa still has the potential to become a great signing for the Reds due to his low transfer fee. If he can get a good run of game time without any injuries, he could be a secret weapon in the second half of the season.
