Multiple names have been floated around and Liverpool clearly seem to be gearing up for an era-defining summer window.

Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards will have to a wait a while before finalising any deals, but the road to one marquee signing is becoming clearer week by week.

Door opens for Liverpool to sign Jamie Gittens

One of the players Liverpool have identified for their attacking rebuild is Borussia Dortmund sensation Jamie Gittens, who is flying in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League this campaign.

BVB have garnered a reputation for developing bright young talents into top-level superstars over recent years, with Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland two prime examples, and Gittens could be the player to step up after an impressive stint in Dortmund.

Despite the impressive season that Gittens is having, BVB find themselves in a precarious position sitting 11th in the Bundesliga – 8 points off the Champions League spots.

These issues were compounded when Dortmund suffered a 2-0 defeat to relegation strugglers VfB Bochum on Saturday afternoon.

It has been reported that Borussia Dortmund will sell Gittens if they fail to secure Champions League football next season, an increasingly likely prospect.

How would Gittens fit at Liverpool?

Although he has played most of his minutes on the left-hand side of Dortmund’s attack this season, the 20-year-old Englishman is also capable of playing on the right.

In his 33 appearances this year, the former Manchester City man has racked up 17 goal involvements – including five in nine games in the Champions League – and Gittens looks comfortable on the biggest stages.

His versatility and excellent dribbling make him an appealing option for Arne Slot’s side, and with the futures of Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota uncertain, Gittens could make Liverpool’s left-wing his own for the next decade or more if he were to make the switch.

If Borussia Dortmund’s struggles continue and they do fail to qualify for the Champions League the door for Gittens to join Liverpool will be wide open, and the Anfield faithful would welcome him with open arms.
