One Premier League star has been told he's too good for Chelsea and that it's time to join Liverpool. How things have changed.

Liverpool have battled Chelsea in the transfer market fairly consistently over the last few years. Usually, it should be said, without success.

There was plenty of talk that Liverpool were in for Enzo Fernandez, for example. Chelsea ended up paying a fortune to grab him before the Reds could properly act.

Noni Madueke was linked, too, as were Pedro Neto and Christopher Nkunku. But two names really stand out.

Liverpool were eager to sign Romeo Lavia back in 2023. They were in talks with Southampton and had pretty much persuaded the player to join.

Only, they then decided to move for Moises Caicedo - a long-time Chelsea target. Liverpool offered a fortune to Brighton (£115m, a British record) and saw it accepted.

However, Caicedo rejected Liverpool and would only move to Chelsea. He subsequently did and when the Reds tried again for Lavia, he too chose the Blues.

Some big blows to Liverpool, then, as Chelsea flexed their muscles to sign some stars. But things have changed.

Liverpool and Carlos Baleba

Liverpool have been linked with Brighton's Carlos Baleba for the last year. His performances last season essentially made him the latest Seagulls star to thrive in the Premier League and the Reds have benefited from that before.

Liverpool signed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton back in 2023, with the Argentine since going on to be a key member of the first-team squad. They also tried to grab Caicedo, of course, but lost out to Chelsea.

And now former Cameroon international Bernard Tchoutang says Baleba shouldn't make the same mistake. He should instead go the Mac Allister route and reject the Blues for the Reds.

“For me, Liverpool is the club that would suit him best!” Tchoutang told Africa Foot.

“And I’m not just saying that because they’re by far the best team in the Premier League this season and one of the strongest in Europe. Arne Slot’s system of play would suit him very well. The Reds like to attack, press and make quick transitions. We also know that this is a club that knows how to trust young players and give them responsibility.”

“As for Chelsea, I’m not sure it would be a good choice. The team is having a decent season, but it’s a step below Liverpool or Arsenal. And I think that Baleba has what it takes to play for one of the best teams in England! He’s ready for it and he’s working hard for it.”

Well, we agree. Baleba has been brilliant for Brighton and we think he could have a big impact at Anfield, too.

Football Insider claim Liverpool are watching him closely and could be tempted into a move. We think it's one well worth considering.
