Liverpool FC Player Power Rankings: Gakpo THREATENS Diaz
We are ranking all members of the Liverpool first-team squad throughout the 2024-25 season with updates at the end of each matchday.
Liverpool were victorious in the Carabao Cup last 16 against Brighton on Wednesday night. Cody Gakpo scored twice and his rival for the left-wing position, Luis Diaz also got on the scoresheet.
Here are our latest Liverpool FC Player Power Rankings after the win on the south coast, with the previous rank for each player in brackets.
25. Harvey Elliott (24)
Edging closer to a return after an injury-ravaged start to the season. This NEEDS to be a big season for the emerging playmaker.

24. Trey Nyoni (new)
The latest member of the Liverpool Academy to come into the first-team fold this season, making a cameo against Brighton in the EFL Cup.
23. Federico Chiesa (20)
This is getting towards crisis point for the Italian, who looks like he will be back in Serie A before long. Arne Slot's quotes about him midweek were NOT encouraging.
22. Jarell Quansah (21)
Came back into the starting lineup against Brighton but looked rusty, with a big error leading to a goal for the Seagulls.
21. Vitezslav Jaros (22)
The Czech Republic international was afforded his FIRST start in the Carabao Cup and performed admirably. It's good to know the Reds have got a reliable deputy in Caoimhin Kelleher to call upon, as well as a solid third-choice.
20. Tyler Morton (23)
Finally got the minutes fans have been crying out for in the win against the Seagulls, contributing positively in midfield. A player of immense potential who just needs to grasp his opportunities in the starting XI.
19. Joe Gomez (19)
Has been getting more minutes in recent weeks as Arne Slot manages Trent Alexander-Arnold's injury at right back. Started in the middle against Brighton and did OK.
18. Wataru Endo (18)
His stock remains low under Slot and didn't do enough against Brighton to convince the head coach he should be a regular starter.
17. Conor Bradley (17)
Had been suffering an injury since the international break until his Carabao Cup outing against Brighton. Filled in decently again for Trent.
16. Andy Robertson (16)
A player who put in a much-needed decent performance against Brighton as he has been struggling for form of late.
15. Diogo Jota (14)
Can't seem to stay fit and is currently on the sidelines following a knock against Chelsea.
14. Dominik Szoboszlai (15)
Remained in the lineup for the Carabao Cup game when some expected him to be rested. Contributing in possession but desperately needs to get his chance creation and goal numbers up. Missed a sitter.
13. Darwin Núñez (12)
It was a lop-sided XI which took to the field at the Amex, with no true centre forward present. Darwin instead came off the bench but didn't add much.
12. Curtis Jones (13)
One of Liverpool's most improved players this season and had another neat and tidy game against Brighton.
11. Kostas Tsimikas (11)
The Greece defender has been a trusted member of the squad under Slot, with the new head coach opting to use him as an alternative to Andy Robertson, whose days as No.1 left back might well be numbered.
10. Caoimhín Kelleher (10)
Had a rest against Brighton but still remains the best No.2 goalkeeper out there, even if he doesn't always appreciate that moniker.
9. Alisson Becker (7)
Quite simply put, he has been missing too many games and that spells danger for goalkeepers. He could be out for another TWO MONTHS following his injury against Crystal Palace.
8. Alexis Mac Allister (8)
Came off the bench against Brighton but still searching for his best form following injury concerns against Crystal Palace before the international break.
7. Cody Gakpo (9)
It looks like Slot now has a genuine alternative to Luis Diaz following a solid week from the Dutchman. A two-goal salvo against Brighton could well put him in possession of the left-wing shirt ahead of the weekend.
6. Luis Díaz (5)
Has not been at his electrifying best in the past few weeks following an outstanding start to the season. Now under serious threat from Gakpo although he managed a goal on Wednesday night.
5. Ibrahima Konaté (5)
Playing perhaps the most consistent football of his Liverpool career. The Reds have been waiting a long time for him to become an immovable first-choice centre back.
4. Trent Alexander-Arnold (4)
Had a crucial rest against Brighton and the Reds will need him to maintain full fitness as they navigate a tricky period.
3. Ryan Gravenberch (3)
Hasn't done an awful lot wrong to lose his No.1 ranking but has been overtaken by two heavyweights. Took the night off against Brighton.
2. Mohamed Salah (2)
Didn't play from the start against Brighton but has been in awesome goal-scoring and chance-creating form this season.
1. Virgil van Dijk (2)
Looks back to his imperious best in recent weeks, although he was given a rest against Brighton. A new contract still looks a way off however.
