Liverpool FC News: Youngster earns first international cap before Reds debut

Not too many players make their senior debut at just 18-years-old, but even fewer do so without having made a single appearance for their club.

However, Liverpool youngster Kyle Kelly has proved an anomaly to the general rule over the March international break, with the teenage midfielder representing his country for the first time.

Kelly was called up by St Kitts and Nevis this month for back-to-back friendlies with European minnows San Marino, and he featured from the bench in the Caribbean side's 3-1 win victory on Wednesday.

St Kitts and Nevis currently rank 147th in the world according to FIFA, with San Marino the lowest ranked UEFA side in 210th, but it was the European side who took the lead in the first meeting.

Filippo Berardi's penalty put San Marino ahead, but Tyquan Terrell levelled ten minutes later. Goals either side of half-time then put St Kitts and Nevis out of reach, and they will be looking for another victory when the two nations face off again this Sunday.

Kelly could earn a second international cap at the weekend, but he would still be able to represent England in the future due to the fact he has only featured in friendlies.

WHO IS KYLE KELLY?

The starlet may not be a name that too many Liverpool fans are overly familiar with considering he is yet to feature for the Reds' first team, but the youngster has been making great strides in the U18s - recently making his debut for the U21s.

Kelly is likely to get more minutes for the U21s as the season draws to a close, with the defensive midfielder having played across a wide array of positions - including left-back and centre-back.

The Northampton-born prospect has featured 15 times for Liverpool's youth teams this season, including two appearances in the FA Youth Cup.

With so many young talents having been handed first-team opportunities in recent months, Kelly will be motivated by a potential pathway to the first team in the future.
