That was arguably the case at the start of the season but the 15-point lead at the top of the Premier League solidifies it. Liverpool are up against in Europe.

PSG showed in the first leg that they're as good as it gets right now, too. The Reds will have known that going in but they struggled to lay a glove on the Parisians over 90 minutes.

Even if Liverpool were prepared, the extent of PSG's performance was a shock to the system. The fact they left Paris with a win felt like a minor miracle.

They have Alisson Becker to thank for that. The Brazilian put in the showing of a lifetime to keep out PSG.

That set the scene for Harvey Elliott to find an 87th-minute winner and give Liverpool an advantage ahead of the season leg. It was the biggest goal of Elliott's career so far.

Liverpool need to hold firm and see off PSG tonight, then, but they do have extra concerns. Five first-team players are one yellow card away from a suspension that would rule them out of a potential quarter-final first leg.

Liverpool players near suspension

Liverpool will need to hope Elliott, Alexis Mac Allister and Andy Robertson are all careful tonight. The trio can all rule themselves out of the next Champions League fixture.

But there are natural replacements for them all. Liverpool won't be too concerned if they're out for one game - there's cover.

The far bigger concern is at centre-back. Both Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate - the leading partnership at the back - are one yellow card away from suspension.

Missing just one would feel like a problem. Missing both could end up being a disaster.

That fixture would almost certainly be against Aston Villa, who lead comfortably against Club Brugge in their last 16 tie. Though, again, Liverpool must overcome PSG at Anfield if they're to get there.
