Liverpool one step away from UNTHINKABLE £45m windfall
Liverpool are on the brink of a windfall that absolutely no one predicted at the start of the season. Now can they get it over the line?
Rewind to the summer and things weren't too optimistic at Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp had left, Arne Slot had arrived, and there were precisely zero major signings.

Everyone expected a bit of a drop under the new boss as he attempted to follow the most successful Liverpool manager in modern history. Doing that with a squad that seemed to need help felt like a hiding to nothing.
And yet, Slot has immediately got this Liverpool team playing like one of the absolute best in the world. The Reds have been flying all season, topping both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
They consolidated their position in the latter on Tuesday, too. Liverpool beat Lille 2-1 at Anfield, ending a 21-game unbeaten run for the French side.
That leaves the Reds on top with one game to go. In fact, they would have confirmed themselves as group winners if not for Barcelona's ridiculous late comeback against Benfica.
Liverpool on brink of windfall
Liverpool are firmly on course to take maximum prize money from their UEFA Champions League campaign. To do so, the Reds would need to top the group and win every single match in the league phase.
Well, Liverpool will bag both if they can win against PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands on their final matchday. They've got 7 wins from 7, after all, and just one point would secure them top spot over Barcelona.
But they'll be chasing that win. It's the big reason why Slot went so strong with his XI against Lille on Tuesday night and you can bet again that he'll put out a decent team for the final match.
It would mean £45m in prize money before the knockout stages. That's absolutely remarkable and was unthinkable back before the tournament started.
This was supposed to be a difficult competition for a Liverpool team asking for patience. Instead, they're on the brink of becoming the first team to ever top the league phase, the first to win every game of the league phase, and to earn all the prize money that comes with that.
