Many supporters have already accepted that the 26-year-old’s time with his boyhood club is coming to a close, but the player himself is yet to confirm or deny the speculation.
Liverpool’s no.66 has urged multiple times this season that his contract situation will not play out in public, but it may be too late for that now, and the time may have come for Trent to follow in the footsteps of a Manchester City legend.
Trent must take action
The Man City legend in question is of course Kevin De Bruyne, who recently announced to his impending departure from the Etihad with a letter to supporters.
In a post that was shared across his social media accounts, De Bruyne revealed he would be leaving Pep Guardiola’s side at the end of this campaign when his contract expires.
This exit has also been speculated about for most of the season, but the 33-year-old has now confirmed his future and directly addressed the supporters of Man City.
EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool ENTER Hugo Ekitike talks
The post, made at around midday on 4 April already has over 60 million views on X, formerly Twitter, and has been met with a widely positive response from around the football world.
Thomas Muller, who has been at Bayern Munich for 25 years, also recently announced his departure from the club in a similar manner.
Although the three players are at different stages in their careers, De Bruyne’s address to the fans has left many wondering why Alexander-Arnold is yet to do the same if he really is leaving.
Why hasn’t Trent addressed his future yet?
Liverpool’s superstar right-back faced some heavy backlash when news of his supposed move to Real Madrid broke recently, but a lot of the anger from supporters was aimed at the player’s silence.
Trent isn’t the only player that could leave Anfield for free this summer of course, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are in the same position.
The difference is that there is a lot of optimism among supporters, journalists and club officials that Salah and Van Dijk will sign extensions before the season’s end.
The majority of those involved with Liverpool have lost hope that local hero Alexander-Arnold will be a Red beyond this summer.
Trent could be worried about more backlash when he does eventually officially announce his decision, but the longer supporters are left wondering the worse the situation becomes.
It is also possible that the Liverpool academy graduate is waiting for his team to wrap up the Premier League, an achievement that looks almost guaranteed at this point.
