Surprise as Thiago star RETURNS to training before Klopp finale
Liverpool have reportedly welcomed three players back to first-team training ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s final game as manager.
The Liverpool Echo reports that Thiago was back in training this week ahead of Liverpool vs Wolves this weekend. The Spaniard has appeared just once this season - five minutes in the Premier League against Arsenal.
Thiago immediately picked up another injury in that one, though, and it was one likely to rule him out all season. Liverpool have missed him pretty badly - after all, he's a 'world-class' player and one with skills that stand out against anyone.
However, he's apparently trained.
Now, there would be absolutely no reason to do that unless Liverpool felt he could actually play football on Sunday. Of course, it's not just any old game, either.
This will be Jurgen Klopp's final at Liverpool and, potentially, Thiago's final game with the Reds, too. He's out of contract in the summer and isn't expected to receive a new one.
It's set to be an emotional farewell for the boss and there's no question that the 33-year-old midfielder will be eager to play.
Whether he's picked, of course, (or remains fit through Sunday) is another matter. Hopefully, he gets at least a few more minutes to say goodbye to Anfield and Liverpool.
Liverpool welcome players back
Thiago isn't the only one returning, either. Both Andy Robertson and Diogo Jota have been back in training and are in contention to face Wolves.
Robertson, in particular, is a must. He's one of the faces of Klopp's great Liverpool side and everyone will want to see him out there for this end of an era.
That's what this is, after all. The end of Liverpool's greatest era since the 1980s - one that saw a new generation of Anfield legends come to the fore.
Sunday offers an opportunity to put most of them on show as the Reds prepare to move into a new era. It promises to be a special occasion no matter what.
