It was followed by Liverpool winning the League Cup. However, things quickly took a downward spiral and in the end the Reds were left running out of fuel both in the Premier League and the Champions League.

Nonetheless, the second half of the year with Arne Slot has seen a massive revival and Liverpool are well positioned to end the year top of the Premier League and Champions League table.

In the new year, one of the club's midfielder's could celebrate another award.

Dominik Szoboszlai earns SPOTY nomination

The Liverpool star has been nominated for the male Sports Person of the Year award back in Hungary as per M4 Sport alongside some of the country's Olympic gold medallists.

The nominees include three Olympic gold medallists, including Kristof Milak and Hubert Kos, who both won multiple medals in the Paris Olympics earlier this year.

Szoboszlai however remains a strong favourite to win the award, having captained Hungary to Euro 2024 and having played a key role for his nation at the tournament, including helping to set-up Kevin Csoboth's historic late winner against Scotland.

In the Nations League, the Liverpool midfielder played an important role in maintaining Hungary's status in the A division by scoring a late equaliser against Germany.

In 13 games for Hungary in 2024, Szoboszlai scored five goals and made one assist, contributing to almost 50% of Hungary's goals in the period.

Meanwhile, at Liverpool Szoboszlai continues to be a key pillar for the team and has thrived since Slot has taken in charge.

He has played a vital role in helping Liverpool compete on all fronts so far this season.

Whether that is enough to claim the award from a strong contender in Kos, who became an Olympic and world champion this year remains to be seen.

Szoboszlai is certainly among the favourites. If he does, it will be his second victory for the award in two years having claimed the prize in 2023 as well.

The ceremony will take place next year on January 13th.
