Six things you missed in Liverpool's FANTASTIC comeback win vs Southampton

Liverpool came back from 2-1 down to beat Southampton 3-2 in the Premier League. Here's what you might have missed.

Arne Slot's gamble

Arne Slot decided to take a chance here. He essentially rotated no one with an incredibly strong XI despite the incredible fixture list following it. Only the South American pair of Alexis Mac Allister and Luis Diaz were left out after their long flights.

Liverpool were playing the team at the bottom of the league, though, with Real Madrid and Manchester City following in the next week. It would have been very easy to rotate a little more.

Instead, Slot went strong - and will just have to manage that in the two gigantic clashes to come.

Harvey Elliott is back

Harvey Elliott was named on the substitute bench here - a massive moment for the player. Elliott has been injured for some time and faces a tough time to get back into the team.

He hasn't actually featured in a match since the first of the season at home to Brentford. But Elliott is now firmly on the comeback trail.

And with the fixture list heating up, the return is just in time.

That weather was awful

Not an easy one for either team. The weather was awful going into the fixture but actually got worse.

That might explain why so many of the goals were calamitous. Two penalties, several mistakes by either side and not what you'd call a 'clean' game of football.

Still, Liverpool survived the trouble to get what feels like an enormous three points.

Szoboszlai breaks his duck

Dominik Szoboszlai grabbed the opener for Liverpool. It's his first of the season.

In fact, it's his first for Liverpool since February and only his fourth Premier League goal. While his record has been very poor for goal contributions, perhaps this is the start of something.

Szoboszlai has been good this season, but goals and assists have evaded him. Arne Slot has called for more as a result and the Hungarian delivered here.

Hopefully, the floodgates opened.

Mo Salah, genius

What a player Mo Salah is. He got the decisive goals here, turning the game around for Liverpool and delivering the points.

With that, the Egyptian has scored in his last five Premier League games. He's also the first player to be directly involved in 15 goals in England's top flight this season.

In fact, Salah has only had four games in all competitions this season where he hasn't scored or assisted. A ridiculously special player.

And one who should really get a new contract.

100 per cent Curtis Jones

Curtis Jones put in another really solid performance here, despite the awful weather and a troublesome Southampton team. The Scouser completed 100% of his passes in midfield to help Liverpool get a foothold.

It continues a brilliant run from Jones, who has been passing with amazing reliability of late. Liverpool have come to count on him and he's delivering every time.
