Here’s all your latest Liverpool FC news to catch up on. Ibrahima Konate and Mohamed Salah have had notable weeks.

Mo Salah injury 'fears'

With all the discussion of Liverpool potentially losing Mo Salah at the end of the season, there has been little discussion of what the side would do if they lost him for any stretch of the current season.

Salah has missed 12 games for club and country in this calendar year so far. This is the first time injury has kept him from a football game since 2019. Despite his physical condition, age will always bring this issue around eventually.

Earlier reports stated that Salah may miss Egypt’s latest match against Mauritania due to wanting to avoid injury potential with the poor condition of the Mauritanian pitch.

Masrawy report that speaking after Egypt’s 1-0 win in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, Egypt legend-turned-coach Hossam Hossan said,

"I did not want to risk Salah, especially at this sensitive time, and keeping him is important because he is a player of great value.”

“I respect Salah’s and Liverpool’s medical staff’s fears of his injury recurring”, Hassan continued, “especially given the nature of the stadiums in Mauritania.”

Konate's France landmark

Ibrahima Konate was snubbed for the role of French national team captain last week following Antoine Griezmann's retirement and Kylian Mbappe being left out of the squad, with the interim Les Bleus role given to  Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni.

In an article from RFM Sport, Konate was praised for his "charisma and personality [which] are unanimous in the locker room", which gave him a good chance of being given the honour.

In France's victory over Israel, Konate briefly got to don the captain's armband when Tchouameni was substituted during the last few minutes of the game.

That was already a significant moment for the Liverpool defender.

However, during France's victory over Belgium, Tchouameni was sent off after picking up a second yellow card with 15 minutes to go, allowing Konate to step up and take charge for an even longer period of time.

Tsimikas's shock absence

Kostas Tsimikas missed Greece's game at Wembley against England last week and for a peculiar reason.

The Liverpool left-back had pharyngitis, which prevented him from playing the game, and this came as a shock to Liverpool.

According to Greek outlet Sportime, the club could not believe Tsimikas' injury and were left surprised by his inability to play the game against England.

However, the Reds will be glad to know that the defender has since recovered from his illness and was fit enough to play eight minutes coming on as a late substitute in Greece's 2-0 victory over the Republic of Ireland, in a game where Caoimhin Kelleher was caught making a bit of a blunder.

Tsimikas has been a really valuable member of Slot's squad this season so having him fit is a huge boost for the Reds.

Mac Allister returns

Alexis Mac Allister returned to action last night in another noteworthy edition of the Lionel Messi Show.

The Liverpool man played 66 minutes as Argentina batted Bolivia aside 6-0 in CONMEBOL World Cup qualification.

Mac Allister had missed Argentina’s previous game as an injury risk, following his removal at half-time during Liverpool’s last game against Crystal Palace.

Argentina’s rain-soaked 1-1 draw with Venezuela was the fifth game since 2021 that Argentina didn’t win, all of which Mac Allister didn’t play the full 90 in.

It came as no surprise, then, that Argentina put out an electric display in his return to the side.

Argentinian outlet TyC Sports gave Mac Allister a 6/10 rating for the game, saying: “It was not a match in which he could shine, but he improved and entered the area more in the second half.”

Klopp rejected Dortmund

Jurgen Klopp’s legacy in Dortmund is just as big as it is in Liverpool, winning two Bundesliga titles and reaching the Champions League final back in 2013.

His decision to join Red Bull therefore has left a bitter taste in the mouths of some at the Westfalenstadion.

And now it’s been suggested that Klopp DECLINED the opportunity to return to the club once his Liverpool days were over in favour of making the move to Red Bull.

A new report in Bild states that Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke offered Klopp the opportunity to take any job he liked at the club when his time at Liverpool came to an end.

According to the report, the offer was made about two and a half years ago, when Klopp was still very much in charge at Anfield.

He could have returned as coach, to the board room and Watzke even offered Klopp the chance to take on a job tailored especially for him.
