Klopp agreed Red Bull deal years ago

The news that Jurgen Klopp is to become Red Bull’s Global Head of Soccer certainly turned some heads when it was reported on Wednesday.

The man who only left Liverpool five months ago, at the end of the last season, citing burnout, had said “there is nothing to say” about his future in football as recently as last week.

The German had recently been subject to heavy rumours surrounding the US men’s national team head coach role before it was given to Mauricio Pochettino. His name had also been mentioned as a potential replacement for Gareth Southgate in the England job.

But now, stunning claims are emerging that Klopp agreed to become Red Bull’s Global Head of Soccer back in 2022.

German tabloid Tz are reporting that Klopp attended a secret meeting with Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz in Austria back in September 2022. The report states that Mateschitz managed to convince Klopp to join Red Bull come the start of 2025.

Mac Allister misses Argentina clash

Alexis Mac Allister was named on the bench for Argentina against Venezuela this week after making the trip, but it was Marseille’s Leandro Balerdi and Roma’s Leandro Paredes that were called on to replace Giovanni Lo Celso and Enzo Fernandes, respectively, during the game.

With the conditions being how they were, however, the chance of Mac Allister reaggravating the issue that he currently has would have been likely. Not being 100% fit, then, might serve the player and Liverpool in the long-term.

Mac Allister was a doubt during the last international break also, but played out the last 25 minutes in a loss to Colombia before returning to Liverpool’s starting lineup.

A former Liverpool man is infiltrating Real Madrid's coaching unit, with Spanish outlet Marca reporting that Alvaro Arbeloa is set to take over their reserve side, Real Madrid Castilla, at the end of the season.

Castilla are currently headed up by football legend Raúl, who is aiming to move up in rank to either a coaching spot in the first-team or a directorial role in the youth side. This paves the way for Arbeloa to take his spot, as has already been agreed.

Arbeloa currently heads up the Real Madrid Juvenil A team, the under-19 side that will be playing Liverpool’s under-19s in the UEFA Youth League in November also. This return to Merseyside will come 15 years after the Spaniard departed to rejoin Real.

Arbeloa spent two-and-a-half seasons at Anfield between 2007-2009, making his first start against Barcelona in the Champions League and being tasked to mark a 19-year-old Lionel Messi in a 2-1 victory.
