Liverpool FC news recap: Salah speaks out as Van Dijk causes PROBLEM
Here's your latest Liverpool FC news.
Mo Salah speaks out
On Friday, Sky Sports released an interview with Salah that gave us all an update on how FSG are handling things.
"It's the last six months," said Salah. "There is no progress there. We are far away from any progress.
"So, we just need to wait and see."
That came after Salah actively described this season as his 'last at the club'. It could not be more clear that Liverpool aren't convincing their star player that he'll be remaining. Or that they particularly want him.
Van Dijk causes contract problem
Even with a shakeup in Liverpool’s defensive line - factoring in suspensions to Andy Robertson and another injury to Conor Bradley, Van Dijk has remained imperious.
His form has been a timely reminder to FSG that it will cost a lot of money to replace him and even if they do manage to get a world-class defender to the club there are zero guarantees that anyone would be as good as Van Dijk.
Over the course of the last three Premier League games, Van Dijk has set an extraordinary record and one which should give FSG pause for thought.
The Netherlands’ captain has won ALL of his 14 ground duels across his last three matches - an astonishing achievement.
Liverpool refuse to break bank for Alexander-Arnold
Per Marca, Liverpool are not expected to 'go crazy' with offers. It's against their policy to overpay players, typically bringing new signings in on reduced wages with incentives for good performance.
And even with Alexander-Arnold, the club will play it cautious, as is the FSG way. They won't offer from anything like Mo Salah's £350k-a-week wages, for instance.
Any offer put to Alexander-Arnold must be in line with the current wage structure. Something the player knows full well, too.
Now, some clubs do not operate that way. We've Manchester United offer enormous wages to Marcus Rashford, for instance, and they're currently trying to get him off the books.
Slot talks with Alexander-Arnold
The question of Madrid's Trent Alexander-Arnold bid was put to Liverpool head coach Arne Slot on Friday morning ahead of the Reds' Premier League game against Manchester United on Sunday.
He confirmed that he has spoken to Trent about the Madrid bid but declined to give much more away.
"I speak to every player once in a while and that is for Trent the same. Yes, I spoke to him," he said.
Salah loves Slot
Salah has found a new lease of life under Slot, scoring 20 goals and adding 17 assists across 26 appearances this season. His form has been exceptional having endured a poor end to the season under Klopp last term, leading to widespread calls for a renewal.
And Salah has now revealed how much he LOVES working under Slot, handing the Reds a key advantage over any potential rival suitors.
Asked in an interview with TNT Sports whether he was surprised at the impact Slot has made in his early days at Anfield, Salah couldn’t have been more flattering towards his coach.
