Here's our Liverpool FC news recap for Thursday 18th January 2024. The Reds may have suffered a major injury blow.

Injuries are the subject today and Liverpool are battling a few of them. Players have been dropping like flies all season - and Thursday even managed to hand the Reds a matchday injury without them even playing.

So with that in mind, here's the Liverpool FC news to catch up on.

Disaster struck for Egypt on Thursday in their massive Africa Cup of Nations clash with Ghana. Their captain and star player, Mohamed Salah, left the pitch right before half time with an injury.

Of course, it's currently unclear exactly what the extent of the injury is - just that it was enough for Salah to go off. The winger is essentially never injured, while the nature of the game makes it impossible to believe he'd go off unless it was potentially serious.

Trent Alexander-Arnold picked up a knee injury against Arsenal at the start of the month, ruling him out for several weeks. That came at an awful time for Liverpool, too, as Dominik Szoboszlai is also out, while Mohamed Salah is at AFCON with Egypt.

The Scouser has picked a return fixture, though - Chelsea at Anfield. Though, it may not be as simple as that.

Jurgen Klopp wants Phillips around until the end of the month as he has a use for him. Joel Matip's injury has left them a little short and it may be that the 26-year-old plays in either of the two cup games coming up.

Only at the end of the month will Liverpool actively listen to offers. Really, it makes it sound as though Phillips is pencilled in to partner Jarell Quansah against Norwich City in the FA Cup in order to give Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté extra rest.
