MOHAMED SALAH DOESN'T RETURN FOR FIRST DAY OF PRE-SEASON
Mohamed Salah was not among the first group of Liverpool players that returned for pre-season training but wantaway duo Caoimhin Kelleher and Sepp van den Berg were present.
The Reds’ first-team stars are beginning to make their way back to the AXA Training Centre after their summer break although several players remain involved in the latter stages of the Copa America and Euro 2024.
Those players who were knocked out of the European Championship earlier this summer meanwhile have been granted extra time off.
However, it is the absence of Salah that has raised eyebrows as the squad gets together for the first time under new head coach Arne Slot.
Salah, 32, spent the first part of June on international duty with Egypt as they endured two African World Cup qualification matches.

RICHARD HUGHES MAKES TRANSFER ADMISSION
Liverpool fans have been left slightly concerned by sporting director Richard Hughes' first media appearance after he admitted that the Reds may be 'opportunistic' in the transfer market.
New head coach Arne Slot and new sporting director Hughes attended their first press conference in Liverpool colours on Friday morning, where they were asked half-an-hour worth of questions about their appointments and the club's immediate future.
Understandably, a recurring theme was the transfer market, which opened in mid-June and will run until the end of August.
Speaking to reporters about Liverpool's upcoming transfer business and where the squad needs to improve, Hughes offered a cautious response.
"We need to improve, and we need to improve on the training pitch first and foremost. But with the window open we will always look to be opportunistic," said Hughes.

LIVERPOOL TO LISTEN TO OFFERS FOR LUIS DIAZ
Liverpool are prepared to offload Luis Diaz this summer amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona.
That’s according to a report in Football Insider, which claims a new Reds’ approach for Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon could spell the end for Diaz at Anfield.
Barcelona were at the front of the queue for the wide man but are finding it difficult to put together a deal. The Catalans are unlikely to make any signings this summer unless significant money is recouped on outgoings.
PSG, meanwhile, remain in the market for a left winger to replace the Real Madrid-bound Kylian Mbappe.
Diaz’s position in the team has been recently placed under threat by Liverpool’s approaches for Gordon. The former academy player, who joined Newcastle from Everton for £45m in January 2023, is reported to have had his head turned by Anfield interest.

PSG TARGET LIVERPOOL-LINKED CRYSENCIO SUMMERVILLE
Paris Saint-Germain have made contact with the entourage of one-time Liverpool target Crysencio Summerville and now appear in pole position to land the Leeds winger.
Summerville, 22, was named the Championship player of the year having scored 19 goals in the second tier as the Whites finished inside the playoff places and has been heavily tipped for a summer exit.
Liverpool have enquired about signing Summerville, as have Premier League rivals Chelsea, but it appears both clubs will be instead moving on to other attacking targets.
That paves the way for PSG to land the in-demand forward with Luis Enrique’s side seeking to overhaul their striking options this summer.
PSG may not pursue a move for Liverpool's Diaz should they land Summerville's signature.
