Sven-Goran Eriksson, who fulfilled a lifelong dream of managing Liverpool at Anfield earlier this year, has passed away aged 76.

The well-respected Swedish manager revealed a terminal pancreatic cancer diagnosis in January, with Liverpool subsequently offering him the chance to lead their legends team out for a fixture against Ajax in March.

Goals from Gregory Vignal, Djibril Cissé, Nabil El Zhar and Fernando Torres helped Sven’s side to a 4-2 win after Ajax raced into a two-goal lead.

"Everybody was a winner today," Sven told LFCTV after the game. "It was beautiful, absolutely incredible. Everything from You'll Never Walk Alone and the rest of the match - and a good win!"

Wonderkid's goalscoring start

Liverpool starlet Lewis Koumas signed a new, long-term deal at Anfield earlier this month before completing a season-long loan move to Championship side Stoke City.

The 18-year-old, who has already earned two senior caps for Wales, made his full league debut for the Potters at the weekend as Steven Schumacher’s side succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at home to West Brom.

Nonetheless, despite the defeat, Schumacher described Koumas as a huge positive for Stoke, with the Liverpool teen netting his first goal for the club and coming close to adding two more.

Having played wide left in the Carabao Cup against Carlisle, Koumas demonstrated his versatility by shining through the middle for strikerless Stoke on Saturday, giving his new manager plenty of food for thought.

However the line-up for the game's coverage was condemned on social media for a lack of neutrality.

Match commentator Bryn Law took to X blasting the broadcaster for the choice of presenter and pundits.

While the Reds are the only team in the Premier League yet to make a signing due a failed bid for Martin Zubimendi and delays in finalising a move for goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, it could be a busy week with youth players on the way out and money waiting to be spent.

A midfielder has long been on Slot's shopping list, with a new link emerging with a player he used to manage at Feyenoord.

According to TEAMtalk, Slot isn't completely convinced by either Wataru Endo OR Curtis Jones in midfield, and wants to add a new player before the end of the window.

Ibrahima Konate was one of many standouts as Liverpool defeated Brentford 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Arne Slot's Liverpool extended their perfect start to the 2024/25 Premier League season with a 2-0 win over Brentford courtesy of goals from Luis Diaz and Mohammed Salah.

It was a collective display of dominance from Liverpool with most players making a case to be player of the match, with one of them being Konate.

The Frenchman was the only player to be brought into the starting team replacing Jarell Quansah who was a doubt coming into the weekend after sustaining a knock on Tuesday.
