Here's our Liverpool FC news recap for Sunday, January 14th 2024. The Reds have been linked with a potential successor for Caoimhin Kelleher.
We're at the end of a rare weekend without any Liverpool action to chomp our teeth into. As such, there haven't been many earth-shattering stories to whet the appetite.
That said, there's been a good amount of transfer gossip flying about - some of it more substantiated than others - along with some interesting quotes from those in the footballing world.
A few things definitely worth catching up on. Here's our Liverpool news recap for Saturday, January 13th.
Liverpool linked with new 'number two'
Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a move for Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson as they prepare for life without current number two Caoimhin Kelleher.
Kelleher is under contract until 2026 but Liverpool would reportedly be willing to sell the 24-year-old if their asking price of around £20m was met.
If there was a need to sign a new backup goalkeeper, the Daily Mail are claiming that Jurgen Klopp is interested in Black Cats stopper Patterson, who at 23 years old has already impressed in England's second tier.
He's made over 100 appearances for Sunderland during his relatively short career and is therefore being touted as one to watch for the future.

Ferdinand issues title warning
Rio Ferdinand has issued a warning to title hopefuls Liverpool after Manchester City came from behind to beat Newcastle United on Saturday evening.
Kevin De Bruyne stole the show in a cameo that would have certainly unsettled Liverpool fans, with City now just two points behind the current league leaders.
And Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes Reds supporters have the right to be worried, believing that City are about to truly kick into gear.
Ferdinand said: "These guys know when to put the pedal to the floor and it looks like now, everybody [Liverpool and Arsenal] is going to be looking over their shoulders and looking around and saying, 'They are coming'."

Kolo Toure has hailed Jurgen Klopp for keeping team spirits up after Liverpool suffered heartbreak in the 2016 Europa League final.
Liverpool saw the Europa League title and, arguably more crucially at that time, Champions League qualification snatched away from them in Basel as they were beaten 3-1 by serial competition winners Sevilla.
However, former Reds defender Toure has revealed that Klopp refused to let his head drop after the defeat - and was the life of the party that had been planned for after the match.
He said: "We had a party after the game. No-one wanted to do anything because we were all down. At one point we all saw him on the dancefloor, he started dancing and went to each of us to bring us on the dancefloor to dance."

Fabio Carvalho's loan switch to RB Leipzig went anything but to plan.
The Portuguese prospect made just a single start in Germany, playing a total of 158 Bundesliga minutes across nine appearances.
As such, Liverpool made the no-brainer decision to recall the midfielder, who was not receiving the game time necessary to make the move beneficial to any party.
Now, Leipzig sporting director Rouven Schroder has claimed that Carvalho 'didn't want to face competition' at Leipzig, resulting in the failure of the move.

Virgil van Dijk has come up against some serious attacking talent in his career - and a lot of the time, he's managed to keep them at bay.
Whether it be Lionel Messi, Robert Lewandowski or Erling Haaland, he's had his fair share of defensive tests while playing in Liverpool red.
However, the Dutchman has surprisingly named a former Arsenal and Chelsea man as the toughest opponent he's ever had to face.
A player who is often regarded as criminally underrated, Van Dijk has singled out Olivier Giroud as the man he's struggled the most against - purely due to his goal-scoring exploits.

Robbie Fowler has revealed that the 'call has gone in' for Sven-Goran Eriksson to take charge of Liverpool's charity legends match against Ajax in March.
In an emotionally-charged video, Eriksson announced last week that he has terminal pancreatic cancer, admitting he has at best a year to live.
Despite reaching such high levels in the game, Eriksson revealed he still had one regret - not managing the team he grew up supporting, Liverpool.
In response to this, Liverpool fans and former players alike have campaigned to get Eriksson into the dugout for the annual legends match in March.
And now, Reds icon Fowler has confirmed on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the request has indeed been made to fulfil Eriksson's wish.
