Liverpool FC news recap: SHOCK Henderson return, Elliott UPDATE, Slot MESSAGE
Here’s our round-up of all the latest Liverpool news for Monday 14 October as Arne Slot sends a contract message over three key stars.
Salah sparks controversy
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has become embroiled in another controversy - this time stirred by a post on Instagram.
Following Egypt’s 2-0 win over Mauritania on Friday, in which Salah scored the second goal, he took to Instagram to post several images of him celebrating the goal with his new trademark archer celebration.
This celebration has sparked some controversy and discussion in Salah’s homeland according to Egyptian outlet Vetogate, as one of Egypt’s biggest clubs, Zamalek, features the figure of an archer with a bow and arrow prominently on their crest.

Mac Allister injury update
Alexis Mac Allister has been a crucial aspect of Liverpool’s brilliant start to the season.
Moved into a more advanced role on the inside-left, Mac Allister’s increased aggression, ability to win duels and advance the ball means that new head coach Arne Slot’s pressing system is executed brilliantly.
And the midfielder has also been integral for his World Cup and Copa America-winning Argentina side. Mac Allister’s presence there allows their dynamic attacking players a freedom similar to what we see from Salah and co. at Anfield.
It’s not too much of a coincidence, then, that their failure to win either of their last two games has coincided without Mac Allister’s presence in the team over the full 90.

Henderson could make shock return
Jordan Henderson’s career hasn’t exactly gone upwards after his departure from Liverpool.
After 12 years and 492 games on Merseyside, the former captain headed for the wealth and sun of Saudi Arabia. He signed for Dammam-based Al-Ettifaq in the summer of 2023, joining up with Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard who remains manager for the club.
Henderson, however, played exactly 19 games for Al-Ettifaq before having his contract terminated and instead signing for Dutch giants Ajax. Whilst a stint at one of the true historic clubs of European football is more respectable, Henderson still completely lost his place in the England squad.
He now captains Ajax, although has seen his play time limited over the past few weeks related to injury issues. Meanwhile, he returned to Liverpool recently, being seen at the AXA Training Centre catching up with former teammates for an as-yet-unknown reason.

Roy Keane rips Trent apart
When he lined up at left-back for England against Finland in Helsinki last night in the UEFA Nations League, Trent Alexander-Arnold showed again why he is one of the best full-backs in the world.
After rarely playing under former manager Gareth Southgate, before being trialled in midfield during the opening games of this past summer’s Euros, Trent has now become a starter under interim manager Lee Carsley.
Last night it was at left-back. This came as a real surprise to many but, in classic Trent fashion, he got on with it.
And he added to the attack as he always does. He registered a goal-creating action by finding Angel Gomes, who subsequently played in Jack Grealish for England’s opener, before sending a quite sensational free-kick into the top corner to make it 2-0.

Huge Elliott update
Liverpool just posted photos of a huge injury update on Harvey Elliott. The Reds have been battling problems with several players.
Liverpool have published photos of Harvey Elliott in training as he continues his path back from injury. The midfielder is yet to start a game this season after picking up a problem.
In fact, Elliott only made one appearance - a substitute against Brentford - before fracturing his foot. He's been out ever since, but it's clear he's making good progress.
Elliot is back running, in fact, and that's a gigantic step for anyone working their way back from a foot injury. While there's no timeline, this could mean he's ready to play football before long - and what an addition he could be to this Liverpool squad.

Slot sends contract message
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has not-so-subtly REMINDED his bosses that three of the best Champions League players of all time have contracts with the club which are about to expire.
The Dutchman was asked to name his best Champions League winners XI for Amazon Prime Video Sport recently and opted to include FOUR of his current Liverpool stable as well as another club legend in the shape of Steven Gerrard.
Goalkeeper Alisson Becker, a veteran of Liverpool's Champions League victory is in along with the aforementioned trio of Mohamed Salah,
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk.
It appears that Slot has taken an opportunity to lay the groundwork for three players he is desperate to keep at the club ahead of their imminent contract expirations.

Szobozslai answers Slot's demands
Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoring for Hungary on Monday night - and it was exactly the kind of goal Arne Slot wants to see at Liverpool.
Arne Slot made it perfectly clear last month: he wants to see Dominik Szoboszlai score more goals. The Liverpool boss set his no.8 the task as he continues to build his side at Anfield.
"I think something that we have to work on with him is that he’s also even more involved in scoring goals and creating chances for us," said Slot, per the Metro.
"Last season he scored three [in the league] if I remember correctly and for an attacking midfielder at Liverpool his numbers need to go up.
