Here's our Liverpool FC news recap for Saturday, 9th March. Michael Edwards is once again the talk of the Reds.

So is Michael Edwards really coming back to Liverpool? That's the big question all fans want the answer to. Saturday saw more updates on that front and the Reds attempt to get their future in place.

Jurgen Klopp also addressed his 'retirement' quote from the other night, while quotes from Trent Alexander-Arnold are reportedly the talk of Man City right now. The Scouser ruffled feathers this week.

Here's our Liverpool FC news recap.

Romano gives Michael Edwards update

Michael Edwards should agree a return to Liverpool very soon. That's according to Fabrizio Romano, who understands things are 'imminent'.

There's plenty of talk right now that Liverpool will be bringing Michael Edwards back to the club. Edwards previously worked with the Reds for around a decade.

"Liverpool are close to complete agreement to bring Michael Edwards back to the club after final attempt exclusively revealed," Romano wrote on X.

"It’s imminent, final detail discussed — club now very confident. "Richard Hughes ready to accept and join Edwards as part of new LFC structure."

This comes after reports late on Friday that Liverpool were close to re-hiring Edwards. It now seems things have continued to progress and that an announcement could be imminent.

Klopp on 'retirement'

Jurgen Klopp has explained his surprise 'retirement' comments made after Liverpool's win over Sparta Prague this week. The German had the wrong idea.

Jurgen Klopp surprised people this week with a joke he made after Liverpool's 5-1 win over Sparta Prague. The Reds' boss was asked if any of the opposing players in the game had particularly impressed him, leading to Klopp wondering where the question was going.

"I retire in the summer," he said. "Do you want me to take him on holiday?"

Well, it turns out that Klopp didn't mean 'retirement' - he just wasn't completely certain what it meant. He was asked about the quote by Sky Sports and was quick to clarify.

"I think some other people used that word [retirement] when I had my announcement and I thought that was the right way to say it," Klopp explained.

"'Step aside' here. That's the idea and I don't know what happens after."

Walker on Trent comments

Kyle Walker says quotes from Trent Alexander-Arnold have been 'floating around' at Manchester City ahead of the clash with Liverpool. The Scouser ruffled feathers.

Trent Alexander-Arnold gave everyone - particularly football journalists - something to talk about this week. He compared success at Liverpool to that of Manchester City, suggesting winning with the Reds was worth more.

Erling Haaland and Ruben Dias gave much-publicised responses to those comments this week, with both asked by journalists to give their impression. Their responses led to a few claims that Alexander-Arnold may have rattled City a bit with his take - though, of course, the players were just responding to questions.

But Kyle Walker revealed on Rio Ferdinand's Five podcast that the players are actually talking about those comments regardless.

"I'm not even getting involved in that," said Walker when asked for his own impression. "It's been floating around the changing room today."

Jurgen Klopp has gushed about Jarell Quansah this week after the Liverpool defender played his 22nd game for the club. The 21-year-old has made 'massive development' this season.

The rise of Jarell Quansah this season has been incredible to see. There wasn't much talk about him even at the start of the summer, with Quansah coming off a 16-game loan spell at Bristol Rovers.

But injuries and a mountain of games led to the young defender getting a few opportunities to start the campaign. Those opportunities have grown into Quansah being a true member of the squad.

22 appearances in all now, from Premier League starts to 15 minutes in the Carabao Cup final to 90 minutes in a Europa League Last 16 tie. It's been an incredible rise and one Jurgen Klopp absolutely recognises.

“Massive, massive development. Massive. He just stepped up," said Klopp this week. "He came back and it wasn’t that everybody in the club was saying, ‘yeah, he will be the next one’."
