Richard Hughes is a big De Zerbi fan
Liverpool's search for a new manager to replace the outgoing Jurgen Klopp may have taken a fresh twist since the appointment of Richard Hughes as the club's new sporting director.
While it seems practically a given that Bayer Leverkusen's Xabi Alonso and Sporting Lisbon's Ruben Amorim are top of the list, one name that could come to the fore now is that of Brighton and Hove Albion's Roberto De Zerbi.
According to The Mail, Hughes is a known admirer of the Italian coach and has a longstanding affinity for his coaching style.

It would seem that Bayern Munich's new head of sport, Max Eberl, is also a fan of Roberto De Zerbi.
According to Christian Falk of BILD, Bayern are already looking at backup options in the event that Xabi Alonso turns them down.
It is reported that Eberl has already reached out to the Brighton coach.

Fernando Torres has endorsed Xabi Alonso amid rumours linking him with the Liverpool job this summer, labelling him "one of the best managers in the world".
Speaking about the Leverkusen boss, Torres said (via Liverpool Echo): "I think he’s doing great, fantastic player and he is already a fantastic manager.
"He’s a really nice guy, I’ve got a nice friendship with him and I hope for him all the best. We have seen in the Sociedad academy he is doing really good things, now you can see he has become one of the best managers in the world."
