'Heart says Liverpool but... ' Michael Owen reveals pick for Premier League title race

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen believes it would be the most incredible story if the Reds managed to win the Premier League title in Jurgen Klopp's final season in charge. 

The Merseysiders are currently locked in a three-way battle for the trophy alongside Arsenal and Manchester City with only 10 matches to go in the season.

Arsenal lead the way from Liverpool in second place, only by virtue of their superior goal difference, with City a further point behind.

The Gunners face Pep Guardiola's side in what's sure to be dubbed a title shootout after the international break with the Etihad the venue on Sunday March 31.

If there is to be a winner in that encounter then it could go a long way towards eliminating their opponents from contention.

Moreover, a draw there and a win for Liverpool against Brighton would leave them clear at the top with only nine matches remaining.

However, Liverpool have got some tricky fixtures of their own in the league to contend with; games against Manchester United and city rivals Everton are appearing on the horizon.

Klopp's side have managed to stay in the race despite a terrible injury crisis and they will be hoping to hold steady between now and the end of the campaign.

Despite Arsenal being top, the bookmakers currently paint them as outsiders to raise their first title in two decades, with City fancied and Liverpool in second place.

Owen backs Man City for Premier League title

And City's status as favourites is echoed by Owen, who believes Pep's side are still the best in the world.

“You fancy Liverpool, I do think they have the easiest run-in as well," Owen told Premier League Productions.

"My heart says Liverpool. I want Liverpool to win it. I think it would be the most incredible story [in] Jurgen Klopp’s last season.

“But I do think Manchester City are the best team in the world at the moment. They have proven that. I can just see them going into overdrive. I think they have gears left.

“Maybe Arsenal and Liverpool are playing at their peak at the moment. I think, at this time of the season, watch Manchester City go. My head says Manchester City.”
