Liverpool made an announcement on Monday that confirms a historic moment for one star.

Liverpool announced on Monday that they will be on a pre-season tour of Asia this summer. The Reds last went to Asia two years ago, though they only played in Singapore.

This time Liverpool will play friendlies in Hong Kong, China and Japan. The latter is a first for the club - they've never played pre-season games in Japan before so there's a bit of history to this one.

It's also notable because Liverpool have typically stuck to the United States for their tours in recent years. They were in Hong Kong back in 2017, as well as the aforementioned Singapore trip in 2023, but it's been the US otherwise.

It makes for a nice change and Liverpool's support in Asia has always been enormous. But there's no question that this is a particularly brilliant announcement for one Red in particular.

Wataru Endo will get to play in his home country wearing Liverpool Red and become the first-ever Japan international to do so. The Reds haven't exactly had many of them - Takumi Minamino is the only other one.

Endo, then, will get to experience something truly special with this announcement. Assuming he's still at the club...

Wataru Endo's future

Endo's future is up in the air right now and it's not exactly a mystery as to why. Arne Slot doesn't appear to be the biggest fan of the midfielder.

Jürgen Klopp, who signed Endo, used him from the start in 20 Premier League fixtures last season. Slot hasn't started Endo once and typically just throws him on at the end of games to close them out.

It's now reported that Liverpool would let Endo leave the club for the right price. We can't be sure what that price is but Eintracht Frankfurt are supposedly interested in signing him.

That's a club who could find themselves in quite a bit of money this year, too. They sold Omar Marmoush back in January, while both Hugo Ekitike and Hugo Larsson are linked with big-money exits this summer.

Endo shouldn't be out of reach for them, then. The midfielder has become a true hero at Liverpool, though, and we're firmly in the camp with those who don't want to see him leave.

At the very least, we hope he sticks around for this Japan tour as it feels like the least Endo deserves. It's a chance for him to make history and the kind of history he wouldn't have thought was possible.

Fingers crossed Liverpool can give him that.
