It’s been a common theme in recent years that departing Liverpool players have failed to impress after opting for pastures new.

Among this category of players is Naby Keita, who is one of Liverpool’s most disappointing signings.

And since his Anfield departure, things haven’t got much better with the Guinean midfielder having signed for Werder Bremen in 2023.

Keita signed for Liverpool in 2018 for a fee of £52m. The deal was met with a lot of excitement but a miserable injury record meant the Reds never got to see the best version of the 29-year-old.

The midfielder’s misfortune with injuries carried over to the Bundesliga with Keita getting injured just weeks into signing for Bremen.

Keita was offered the chance to join Championship side Sunderland this summer with the former Liverpool man rejected a move back to England.

After making just five appearances for the German side last season, Keita has now been frozen out of the Bremen squad, with the club now pushing hard to offload the Guinea international.

On Werder Bremen's homepage, his portrait picture has been deleted under the section "Professional Squad".

Discussions are understood to be ongoing in the background.

As per the report, Bremen were eager to cut ties with Keita in the summer, with a loan deal to Turkish first-division club Hatayspor being negotiated.

It was agreed that Keita wouldn’t have to take any financial sacrifices with the German side prepared to continue to pay part of his salary. The Guinea international gave his approval on the transfer.

This was then followed by Keita informing his agent that he does not want a move to Turkey after not having a ‘good feeling’ leaving Bremen’s bosses still angry today.
