A brace against Bournemouth on Saturday saw Salah break the 20-goal mark, the fifth time he has done so as a Red, and if he were to keep going at his current rate the Egyptian King would finish the season with 34 goals and 21 assists in the Premier League.
That total would be record-breaking, but Salah has already broken a record in his most recent outing.
Salah’s away form is historic
With his brace against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday, Salah took his away goals and assists total to 21 in the Premier League, the most by any player in the history of the competition.
This feat alone is impressive, but when you consider that Liverpool still have seven away games remaining in the league this campaign, the true scale of Salah’s achievement comes into view.
The majority of the Egyptian’s goal contributions have come away from home (21 of 34), and Liverpool’s split of home/away games has been pretty even (11 home, 12 away), but there is no clear reason for why Salah is performing better away form Anfield.
There is of course the ongoing situation regarding Salah’s contract, which is set to expire in June, and this could be the reason behind Salah’s improved form when playing away from home.
Salah’s future at Liverpool
Despite enjoying what could be the best individual season in the history of the Premier League, this could be Salah’s last season in the competition.
Although the 32-year-old is reportedly keen on agreeing an extension to stay at Anfield, progress has been slow, and interest from Saudi Arabia has meant Salah’s future has never been less certain.
This uncertainty could be having an impact on the Egyptian and could explain why he is statistically performing better when away from home, but it isn’t as if the Anfield crowd has turned hostile on Salah so that explanation could be a bit of a reach.
It could simply be down to chance that Salah has been so deadly on the road this season, but Liverpool supporters will be hoping that whatever it is driving their talisman to perform so well continues.
Mo Salah’s future may be uncertain, but he has the chance to write himself into the Premier League history books once again this season, and is strengthening his hand in negotiations with every top performance.
