Although at this stage Liverpool are right to have a genuine worry about his departure. With less than six months on his current deal, Salah is free to negotiate with other clubs from abroad.

PSG and Saudi giants like Al Hilal and Al Ittihad are likely going to be in the race to sign the Liverpool star. And the more Liverpool dither in extending his deal, the more inevitable a departure becomes.

Especially based on a worrying conversation Salah had with Gary Lineker recently.

Mo Salah sends powerful FSG message

In a conversation on the Rest is Football podcast, former Everton star, Gary Lineker revealed he had the chance to ask Salah about his future at Liverpool prior to interviewing Arne Slot.

"He was just being funny, he was just kidding because the Liverpool press guy was there," Lineker said.

"He said to me, 'So how old were you when you finished?' I said, 'Well, English football I was 32 and I went to play in Japan for a couple of years.'

"He went, 'Oh, you went for the money did you?' I said, 'Well yeah, I suppose so.' And he went, 'Yeah, might do the same.'"

Lineker was then pressed by Alan Shearer to say that Salah was only joking, which the Everton legend confirmed.

"He was," Lineker said. "He winked at the press guy that was there, it was just a joke.

"But yeah, he has got that cheeky sense of humour, has Mo."

But just how much a joke was it really? They say that jokes always come from some version of the truth. Salah may have been trying to make light of a stressful situation.

You could also interpret it as a positive sign about Salah being relaxed about his situation and being comfortable enough to joke about. If things had gotten sour with Liverpool, he definitely would not be as open to making jokes.

Regardless it is a conversation FSG should pay close attention to. Salah's message is loud and clear. He knows what he is worth, and he will get what he's worth.

Whether that is at Liverpool or elsewhere, it doesn't matter.
