And I'm talking about someone who is unequivocally and by all numbers considered quite simply without a shadow of a doubt the world's best player. Not someone we as fans consider the best.

Steven Gerrard was up there. So was perhaps Luis Suarez. But they were top five territory even in their heyday, never an outright world's best.

The last time that happened was perhaps Michael Owen, who won the Ballon d'Or and was the last Liverpool player to earn the accolade in 2001, more than 20 years ago.

Those years have been long and hard but now there's a player who is at the top of the game and who is desperate to play for Liverpool.

Why Mo Salah is the world's best player

That player is, of course, Mohamed Salah. After two assists and two goals for Liverpool against Tottenham he now has 33 goal contributions for the season - more than anyone else from Europe's top five leagues.

Below him, Omar Marmous has 30 and Harry Kane has 29.

Salah has also just become the first player in the history of the Premier League to reach 10 goals and 10 assists before Christmas has even begun.

On the pitch, there are no questions about it Salah is by far and away the best player in the world.

The question marks remain off the pitch. As insane as it sounds, his future at the club is not guaranteed. Even if it seems that he is desperate to stay and continue playing for Liverpool.

Why Mo Salah is desperate to play for Liverpool

Asked about whether there were any contract updates, Salah gave an exciting response for fans by deciding to stay very low key on the subject.

It's a stark contract to his outburst against Southampton last month, when he went out of his way to speak to journalist's in the mixed zone outside of St Mary's, something he has never really done in the past.

In that interview, Salah made it clear he's desperate to stay at Anfield. Now he's just doing his talking on the pitch and he's doing it in a beautiful way breaking records to smithereens along the way.

There are no questions about it, he sees his future at the club. Now it's just up to FSG to make sure they give him what he wants. Because at this point someone of Salah's calibre is literally worth anything.
