A new Anfield announcement is a true game-changer for Liverpool fans.

Liverpool have, thankfully, continued to make changes with Anfield. Last season saw the introduction of the new Anfield Road stand - a much bigger, modernised stand.

It's come after dramatic changes to the Main Stand, of course. FSG have helped Liverpool grow the Anfield capacity from around 44,000 to over 61,000 across the last decade.

That's something Liverpool needed and have sought for a very, very long time. After all, the previous ownership took over with the promise of a new stadium built in Stanley Park.

"The first spade will start going into the ground on that [stadium] project by March [2007]," said George Gillett. That didn't happen.

But Liverpool needed a boost to their attendance and they got it without leaving Anfield. It's an achievement that honestly feels very special - Anfield is the reason the club exists, for one.

Now Liverpool have increased revenue and prestige without losing their home. Few clubs have managed that in recent years.

With the expanded ground, however, comes a new problem. Or at least it's increasing an old problem.

Getting to and from Anfield, particularly via the city centre, is a nightmare. Anyone who's cued for a 917 bus after the final whistle has weighed up whether the 40-minute walk might be the better option.

The increased capacity only exacerbates that problem - but an answer may have been found.

A new bus service to Anfield

Arriva have announced a new direct bus service to Anfield from Liverpool ONE. The 926 will now head there from the main shopping centre, with the 927 taking fans back after full-time.

It's something that should dramatically ease the congestion found after the final whistle as thousands of fans scramble for post-match transit.

Here are the details:

The 926 will leave from Stand Four at Liverpool ONE 3.5 hours before kick-off. It's a direct service, so no stops before Anfield.

The 927 will leave from St. Domingo Road, with the first service departing 10 minutes before full-time. It'll keep up that service for two and a half hours after full-time.

We're hoping this is a game-changer, then, and something that makes matchday travel a lot easier for fans. Bus remains the easiest route back to the city after a match - so the more buses, the faster fans can get moving.
