Man Utd vs Liverpool: Jamie Carragher predicts score for key Reds clash

Jamie Carragher has given an optimistic prediction for Liverpool's trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United this weekend.

There are just nine Premier League games remaining for the Reds this season and the facts are clear: win all nine and Jurgen Klopp will leave the club as champions.

Liverpool currently sit in second place on 67 points, but can reclaim top spot with a victory over Sheffield United in their game in hand on Thursday night.

Then, win the following eight and the title is definitely coming to Anfield.

That task is easier said than done, however, with a host of tricky games to navigate amid a hectic schedule.

Klopp's side face the likes of Aston Villa, Tottenham and Everton in the run, while — perhaps highest on most fans' minds — there is the trip to Old Trafford this Sunday.

The Reds head to Manchester for a repeat of the FA Cup quarter-final clash from last month which they lost 4-3 after extra-time.

That dramatic defeat ended any hopes of an improbable quadruple for Liverpool this season and was one of the more disappointing performances from Klopp's men in recent months.

Liverpool twice held the lead against United, but fell to an 120th-minute goal from Amad Diallo on the counter-attack.

Carragher's positive prediction

All concerned with the club will be hoping for a better display and result this Sunday, with every game now crucial in the title run as Arsenal and Manchester City promise to keep fighting on until the end.

One man who is remaining confident over Liverpool's chances is club legend Carragher.

Asked if this is Liverpool’s toughest remaining game on the Stick to Football Podcast, the former defender turned pundit said: “Yeah, yeah,  2-1 Liverpool.

“I do actually think that will be the score.”

The Reds go into the clash in good form, having won five of their last six in the Premier League.

United, meanwhile, have only won three of their last six in the league, losing to City and Fulham recently, as well as drawing with Brentford last time out.

Liverpool's last victory at Old Trafford came in October 2021 when the Reds famously ran out 5-0 winners. However, Klopp's side have lost both encounters at the ground since then.
