Liverpool's Arne Slot NEGLECT is there for all to see with Luis Diaz

Liverpool have a vast array of attacking talent and scoring goals is rarely a problem.

Regardless of who gets the team past the winning post, you can often rely on someone to step up and deliver.

More often than not, that person has been Mohamed Salah, who has been up to his usual tricks in front of goal, although this season it appears as though he intends to deliver a campaign unlike no other in his career, producing goal contributions at an emphatic rate - 23 goals and 17 assists in 30 starts.

And although the returns aren't close, Cody Gakpo is also having a standout season this time around with 14 goals and five assists to his name, having finally been allowed to play at his favoured left-wing position.

Meanwhile, a number of player's disappointing efforts are going under the radar and Arne Slot's lack of transfers tailored to his needs is threatening to make a mess of Liverpool's season.

Luis Diaz's false dawn season so far

After an incredibly bright start to his Premier League season, scoring five goals in the opening five games, Diaz has fallen away significantly in the competition.

Since September, he has managed to add just three more finishes to take his tally to eight in the league. When the team is on a title charge, that is a rather concerning figure.

In the other competitions Liverpool are eyeing up, he has four goals, which is still a mediocre effort given three of those goals came in a hattrick against Leverkusen.

Now, we must give him some credit given he has been moved around the pitch a fair bit this season, playing at left-wing on some occasions and working as a hybrid centre-forward on others.

But 12 goals is undoubtedly a disappointing tally after starting the season in such an emphatic fashion.

When we look at what was at stake before Diaz intervened in front of goal, we can see that on six occasions he broke the deadlock in a game, allowing Liverpool to then press on and kill off the contest in quick time.

Meanwhile, on five occasions, his involvement was decisive to the result of the match, so when he is on form, he can be a valuable asset for Slot to utilise.

However, Liverpool are having to use him as much as possible because of other failings in the team.

Both Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota have been underwhelming this season as well, although the Portuguese international has been hampered by injuries this season.

As such, the move to playing Diaz as a centre-forward is an attempt to pave over the cracks in the Reds' attacking line, and given how poor his returns have been while being fielded in such a role, it is clear that Slot is trying to put a round peg into a square hole. It isn't working.

Federico Chiesa was brought in as a last-minute option to facilitate Salah's workload over at right-wing, but his profile does not fit the type of forward that Slot likes to play with.

Until some more tailor-made options are brought in for Slot to use, it seems as though the team is playing with a number of passengers and sooner or later, the team will suffer after having to rely on the only two players who are really firing on all cylinders.
