Ben Doak has shown he can clearly perform at a senior level whilst on loan at Middlesbrough this campaign, but it is another Championship loanee that will have caught Slot’s eye on Saturday afternoon.

Lewis Koumas, who is on loan at Stoke City, was the man of the moment for the Potters in the FA Cup fourth round, despite the side going out on Penalties to Championship rivals Cardiff City.

Koumas follows in his father’s footsteps

The 19-year-old, who has made 35 appearances for Stoke this season, once again showed just how good he is with an FA Cup brace on Saturday.

The Potters found themselves 2-0 down after just 19 minutes of the tie, but Koumas bagged in the 42nd minute before drawing his side level in the 46th minute. The match ended 3-3 and Stoke crashed out after losing 4-2 in the penalty shootout.

Although Koumas’ prowess in front of goal is an impressive takeaway, what is perhaps more impressive is that Lewis’ dad, Jason, also scored against Cardiff in the fourth round of the FA Cup 23 years ago.

Jason Koumas also spent time at Liverpool’s academy but never made a senior appearance for the club and Lewis has already bested his father in that regard as the promising winger has not only played, but also scored, for Liverpool’s first team.

The future is bright for Koumas, who has six goals and three assists for Stoke this campaign and has also burst onto the scene for the Welsh national team, making five appearances since his senior debut in June 2024.

Koumas’ impressive form whilst on loan could mean that he will be afforded an opportunity by Slot when he returns at the end of the season, and the Dutchman will be delighted to see one of Liverpool’s brightest prospects flying.
