The Dutchman is less keen on rotating his options and he certainly hasn't given as many opportunities to academy talent as his predecessor, Jurgen Klopp.

But last week we still saw the emergence of Rio Ngumoha, making his debut against Accrington and the likes of Jayden Danns and Trey Nyoni also making their marks.

Now there is a USMNT prospect gunning to follow in their footsteps.

Keyrol Figueroa explains why he wants to join Liverpool's first team

The USMNT U20 international has been on the books at Liverpool for some time and he's given an interview to Liverpool's official website recently where he revealed he looked up to several former Reds as his influences.

"When I was younger, I was just about old enough to watch [Didier] Drogba, [Sergio] Aguero," Figueroa said.

"I watched Luis Suarez as well. I think [Fernando] Torres when he was at Atletico Madrid was someone I tried to embody. Daniel Sturridge as well when he was at Liverpool. Those are the types of players that I looked up to.

"I'd say I'm powerful, I'd say I'm good [with my] back to goal. I think I'm a complete, total finisher – I can finish with my left, my right or my head."

This season Figueroa has been struggling with an injury which has limited his appearances meaning he has featured in just over 300 minutes of football at academy level.

Yet, he still has three goal contributions in those matches and 18 years old, it's fair to say he is close to knocking on the first team door.

Speaking to Liverpool's media team, Figueroa announced his intention to do exactly just that when he was asked about what his plans for 2025 were.

"Be able to be on the bench or play a couple of games for the first team or for me to be able to get a professional experience, just some professional experience in general," Figueroa said.

It will be difficult for him to achieve those goals.

However, with Jayden Danns set to go on loan and Liverpool's forwards either injury prone or not firing at the moment, there is a possibility he could indeed earn a promotion to Slot's first team in the coming months.
