Kenny Dalglish names one Liverpool legend he would add to Jurgen Klopp's squad

Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish has named the one former great from Reds history he would add to Jurgen Klopp's squad to give the current team a boost in the title race.

The 2023/24 Reds sit top of the table after 27 games with 63 points, after a last-gasp win over Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

Hot on Liverpool's heels are Manchester City and Arsenal, one and two points behind respectively, with a huge showdown against Pep Guardiola's side to come this Sunday.

As he battles a serious injury crisis and the need to compete on multiple fronts, Klopp will need his side firing on all cylinders if he is to secure a second Premier League title in his final weeks as Liverpool manager.

One man who knows a thing or two about what it takes to win leagues is club legend Dalglish.

The 73-year-old won eight First Division titles for Liverpool as a player and manager during an historically dominant period for the club between 1979 and 1990.

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Dalglish was asked which of the club's former greats he would add to the current side to help aid them in their title push, settling on former captain Graeme Souness.

"Souness," Dalglish told host Tim Sherwood. "Souness if he could run. He couldn't run now!"

Asked why the former Scotland star, Dalglish joked: "The opposition might not finish with the same XI they started with!

"But to be in and around the dressing room, his mentality and the way he went about."

A fearsome midfield general in his day, Souness, now 70, spent six years at Anfield between 1978 and 1984.

Another man who would later manage the club, Souness made 354 appearances for Liverpool as a player and won five league titles and three European Cups among other honours.
