'Quite a lot': Liverpool wonderkid is already seeing rewards from 'different' Slot regime
One of Liverpool’s wonderkids is already seeing the rewards of the Arne Slot era at Anfield. Things are ‘different’ now.
Kaide Gordon is back on track after an awful two-year spell that saw him struggle to overcome injuries. Go back to 2021 and he was the brightest prospect in the academy, having arrived from Derby County with a ton of hype.
He debuted at 16 late that year, scored his first goal in early 2022 and even played in the Premier League in January 2022. Then the injuries hit, and Gordon wouldn't appear for Liverpool for another two years.
The wonderkid lost out on an incredible amount of development time and only now is able to get back on track. This is his first preseason in years - and thankfully, it's going well.
Gordon recognises that things are different, though. He returns to a new-look Liverpool with a new manager to impress and a different way of doing things.
"It's definitely different to how the old gaffer was, but I'm enjoying it so far and I'll just see how the season goes, to be honest," Gordon told LFCTV.
He then explained how one new coach, John Heitinga, is proving particularly beneficial. The new coaching crew are working closely with him - and he's seeing the rewards.
"I've been speaking to John quite a lot, he's helping me with my finishing and all kinds of stuff like that, my positioning," says Gordon. "It's definitely different but I'm enjoying it."
Kaide Gordon is on the right track
Gordon's return from injury was one of the brightest points of last season and he certainly wasted no time in getting back in the flow of things. His efforts for the Under 21s saw him sign a new long-term contract at Liverpool.
That's the greatest sign that the club still has faith in Gordon. Two years is an incredible amount of time for any player to miss, let alone one right on the cusp of cracking it at first-team level.
But with this being a fresh start for everyone at Liverpool, Gordon can take advantage. The early signs are positive and perhaps he can finally fulfil his brilliant potential under Arne Slot.
