Jayden Danns is the man of the hour for Liverpool. The 18-year-old made his debut for his boyhood club, won his first trophy and scored a brace in front of the Kop all within the space of a week.

Few knew the name Jayden Danns prior to this season, but the teenager has shot to stardom following his impressive displays amid Liverpool's injury crisis.

The 18-year-old forward was handed towards the end of the Reds' 4-1 win over Luton in the Premier League, with Darwin Nunez and Mo Salah among those unavailable.

He then came off the bench again in Sunday's Carabao Cup final, even testing Chelsea keeper Dorde Petrovic with a fine header.

Danns did open his Liverpool account just three days later of course, netting a well-taken brace against Southampton in the FA Cup fifth round.

At just 18 years one month and 12 days old, he is now the seventh-youngest goalscorer in the club's history.

It's been a whirlwind few days for Danns, but in truth it's been a whirlwind few years for the boyhood Red who has shot through the age groups since joining the club at eight years old.

As a perfect demonstration at just how quickly life can come at you, Liverpool's official X (Twitter) account posted side by side images of Danns celebrating both as a ballboy and as a first-team player. Incredibly, the photos were taken just two seasons apart.

In the first image, Danns is pictured crouching with his fist raised as the like of Roberto Firmino, Luis Diaz and Ibrahima Konate celebrate a goal during the 2021/22 campaign.

In the second, he is the shown with the same pose celebrating his own goal against Southampton on Wednesday night.

Dream come true

Speaking after his FA Cup goals, Danns couldn't contain his emotion about the 'unreal' situation.

He told ITV: “It’s a dream come true! I’ve supported the club since I was young, since birth, so to come on and score at the Kop end – it’s unreal.

“It doesn’t feel real to me. It feels like I’m in a movie. I don’t think I’ll sleep tonight.”

When asked about his father, former professional footballer Neil Danns who also spent time in Liverpool's academy, he said: “He said last time when I made my debut he was crying, so I don’t know what he’s going to be doing now.

“He’s in the stands watching and so is my mum and my brother and my sister and my nan. It’s unbelievable.”
