Arne Slot is expected to call upon a striker for the very first time since becoming Liverpool manager. Let's hope it's been worth the wait.

Arne Slot was given just one new player when becoming Liverpool boss. Federico Chiesa arrived from Juventus but other than that, this is the squad Jurgen Klopp had - minus a few who left.

While Slot has this squad flying, it's also true that we haven't seen all of it. There is at least one player who made a statement last season who hasn't been able to feature in this campaign.

Jayden Danns has battled injuries in 2024, forcing him to abandon any plans of furthering his breakthrough at Liverpool. That breakthrough started with a bang a year ago, of course, as Danns scored twice for the Reds in the FA Cup and featured in the incredible EFL Cup final.

But then progress halted. We can't say for sure how he'll take to life under Slot as we haven't seen him play once under the Dutchman.

The wait, though, is finally over.

Jayden Danns set for season debut

The Times reports that Slot very much sees Danns as a part of his senior squad. He's now expected to call on the forward against Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup.

Now, it's not clear whether Slot will start the youngster but at the very least, we should see him come off the bench. But there's surely a good chance of Danns getting the nod from the get go.

After all, he's proven himself in this competition before. His efforts for the Under 21s have been really solid this season, too, and Danns does look ready.

Slot will be eager to rest players, too, coming off meetings with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. The young striker gives him a fine opportunity to do just that.

Next week, then. Danns should be back in action for the Liverpool senior side - and ready to make yet another statement.
